All ya'all are doing it wrong... I work in a residential treatment home for criminal teen boys. I bring Destiny into work and have the residents farm marks and materials for me. They are excellent minions. Sometimes I'll play myself to show them things. Basically, Ive gotten paid to play Destiny and my employer thinks its awesome that I share that experience with the guys. Only downside is I only make $11.25 an hour because we're a poor non-profit. I'm about to start a new job at a youth correctional facility, however, where I'll make closer to 20.

Edited by FloppySeaLion: 11/4/2014 4:13:15 AMDude, don't try to prove her wrong. In my past experiences with members of the opposite sex, (and really just people in general,) proving someone else to be inferior to you just isn't a good idea. Instead, I recommend trying to communicate to her that you have a hobby just like every other person with a job, and that hobby just happens to be video games. If she can't respect how you choose to spend your free time, then just hurry up and dump that -blam!-

Would it be better if you sat in front of the tube streaming a tv series (i.e., Walking Dead, House of Cards, etc...) via Netflix? You know, like the majority of mainstream America! A hobby is a hobby, who cares what it is. It's all about time management. If you remember one important rule, duty before pleasure, then you're squared away. It is only when your priorities fall out of order that you have a problem.

I work in the fermenting department at a very large commercial brewery. I handle yeast propagation. Basically microbiology. Work 40 to 60 hours a week on midnight shift. Making anywhere between $22-$32/hr. It may not be the best job in the world, but it's a very decent job for a 24 year old without a college degree.

How is spending time enjoying a hobby a "waste of time"? How one spends their free time should have nothing to do with what kind of job they have. A lot of my friends work 40+hrs a week at good jobs and still game. Why? Because it's what they enjoy doing in their downtime. Hell, when I was a property manager for a hotel working 84 hrs a week I still found some time to get some gaming in. I'm now working as a sales associate for Lowe's.
