FF series is on the list. Thank you though! I hope Destiny doesn't represent a market trend.

  • no worries bro. and I yes it was a trend before destiny came out. I played Rift in alpha, beta, and for the first 2 month it came out. The dev's came out in the open and said they didn't care that lvl cap grind was so short. they wanted people to get in to the endgame so they could enjoy the true game. Truth was the endgame had 1/10th of the fun as the lvl grind and I ended up leaving even tho I had 4 more months of paid subscription at that point.

  • That sucks. It seems like the industry is so preoccupied with everyone feeling like a badass that they forget about the best part of any superhero or powerful character: the origin story. Most of the time, the endgame is so much better for the path to get there, not in spite of it. Half the fun of a game like Borderlands is leveling up and experiencing the incremental surges in power that your character enjoys because of it. One of the greatest strengths of those games though is that once you do get to the top, there is still plenty of content that allows you to flex your muscle to the fullest extent and enjoy the fruits of all the work you put into your character. I'll never understand why the industry in general fails to understand that.

  • Because we are allowing it. By buying games like this, cod and others that do the same thing we are telling them that we support Normalization. No child left behind and Everyone deserves a trophy is now the the bar. The gaming industry 10 years ago made games so much better with 1000x more content. Now days only things games got for them is "Shiny pretty graphics" Truth all they are doing is putting more sugar on a turd and calling it a king size candy bar.

  • I agree. I'm not sure that trumpeting the "No Child Left Behind" thing actually serves to make your point well, but I get what you mean. Games are being made super accessible now so that limits the scope of what they can do. I don't think there is anything any of us can actually do about it. People turn 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, etc. every day.

  • "No Child Left Behind" Its not the best line to define the problem but its one that everyone knows and fits. Also the only thing that I can do about it is be more selective in my buying of video games and stop taking the development crew at its word. I have been pretty decent in the past but this time around I did get wrapped up in the hype.

I did too. I've prided myself on making decisions and sticking to my guns for the past few years. For example, I bought BF4 and that was a huge disaster. I hung onto the game because it was fun when it ran well. It was rough to say the least. One vanilla map, Dawnbreaker, froze for me 100% of the time on my 360 until they finally fixed it after 8 months. I told myself though that I would not give EA another dime of my money until they stopped doing business the way they have been. Despite being told by various trolls on Battlelog that I would give in and buy from them soon, I didn't. I skipped Titanfall and I didn't preorder Hardline. With this, I threw out all my hard won knowledge about buying games at launch. I got swept up in the hype as many of us did. After all, this is Bungie, right? No way I'm going to regret this. I bought every Bungie title at or within 3 days of launch since Halo: CE. I rented a freaking Xbox 360 for a month from Rent-A-Center because I was too broke then to buy one outright and then went to Walmart and bought a new copy of Halo 3. I can honestly say that I have never been so thoroughly let down by as I am with Destiny, but I think that is because I held no other developer in as high of an esteem. Not even close.
