How can player wear what they want and still be level 30?
As it stands the only way to reach lvl 30 is to have 4 peices of armor with 30 light each. As exotics can reach 30 light the rest of the armor must be obtained through random armor drops by playing the Raid, everything else is worthless. I believe this is not the best way to reach lvl 30 because it completley ruins the entire armor system.
First, it makes every other legendary armor obsolete because regular armor caps at 27 light.
Playing on your lvl 30 and just got a sweet legendary drop? oh it's a legendary armor engram? No way it reloads auto rifles quicker? Well, dismantled.
Secondly, it prevents players from customizing their characters to their play style by making default characters with all the same armor perks.
Want your lvl 30 character to specialize in hand cannons by being able to reload them quicker and hold more ammo for them? Too bad you get to reload special weapons faster and hold more heavy ammo like everyone else!
And what happens when they raise the level cap? Will all the armor currently in the game become useless?
Well I might have a solution for that.
Bungie could add a random drop from the raid called a "VOG Seal" or something. What this does is you can apply it to any piece of legendary armor and it unlocks another progression sphere on that armor to be leveled up and increase it's light to 30.
Now any and all legendary armor is now useful.
Obviously there will be some limitations like, it can only be applied to a piece of armor once, cannot be applied to armor that already has a max light cap of 30, etc...
The same concept can be applied to the new raid and dlc coming out. With this I think everyone wins.
Players can use which armor they want but still be required to play the raids.
Problem: Raid Armor,
- Is the only way to reach lvl 30.
- Makes every other armor obsolete.
- Ruins character customization by having everyone be a default lvl 30 character.
Solution:
- Add a random drop for a "raid seal" which can be applied to any legendary armor to increase it's light
Thoughts?

I agree the armor and loot system is so lame... im 28 and have zero desire to get to 30... since theres really nothing to do
-
You get all the customization you want with two different sets of raid gear though!!

Edited by Saudademaru: 10/30/2014 12:53:54 AMI agree because I don't care for the perks on raid armor but like my other gear better. But for me, it's not just raid armor but also raid weapons. All of the raid weapons have attribute damage like void, solar, or arch. They are also legendary and this makes me lose all interest in any primary weapon that isn't from the raid. Even the hawkmoon and The Last Word which I have been looking forward to for so long just seem like bad choices, and they are exotic! Also, I hate the iron banner. Not to mention everyone doing good in the iron banner will be raid equipped people. I was level 25 and slashed another player like 4-5 times with my arc blade and it barley did anything.

You're not wrong but you're not right lol. The cool thing about keeping your armor is how you can tweak it to your playing style. But lets say you have your raid gear, you can have it for a level 30 raid and for the next dlc raid. that's one use for that armor. but in pvp you could tune legendary gear to your play style. If you're into scout rifles with super's and grenades then you can tune your "obsolete" armor into that. And if level really matters, legendary maxes out at 29, you can still do nightfall's, weekly's etc. Granted it's not 30 but it's enough to get you through a strike, with gear fine tuned to your play style. The raid seal idea is cool but I'd hate to have it be a random drop. There has to be some kind of difficult challenge to get that gem.

Why is there more variety of armour styles in each of the white, green and blue tiers than the legendary? Why are most of the emblems so badly drawn or just plain rubbish? Why are most of the few available shaders so bad with regards to colour clashes? Why are most of the vendors useless? Why are all rare engram ships brown? Why have i got over 3000 sapphire wires? Why when i have killed someone in PvP they are still able to kill me? There are a lot more why's i could ask but i don't know "why" i should be bothered too anymore! LoL : )

Raid seal idea would work a hell of alot better than what Bungie are doing. They said this was a game about customisation not everyone looking the same.
-
I had the same thought only with using the motes of light to upgrade your armor instead of it being just another currency. I like your idea too though. Something to give some meaning to what you do have because it's so hard to get gear anyway.

Bumpity bump bump.

Great idea!

Edited by Ale Golem: 10/30/2014 10:59:00 AMI like the VoG Seal idea but I’d take it a bit further. Add something you can use, maybe a one use mystic item bought from Xur or pay motes of light to use the Gunsmith’s CNC machine, that will allow you to dismantle a piece of raid armor/weapons and use it to upgrade any piece of armor/weapon to legendary status with the potential to get to 30 light. This will solve two problems at once, first it’ll add more armor skins to the end game as people will be able to upgrade even white armor/weapons to purple if they wanted and it would give people something to do with duplicate and off class raid armor pieces and weapons. The armor abilities would be random, same as if you found it in the wild, or you could break down two pieces of raid gear to choose one special ability for the upgraded armor/weapon. Also, custom shaders because obviously custom shaders. PS: Because who doesn't want a legendary Khostov 7G-02?

good idea.

why do you have to be 30? why don't you just play and enjoy it. Its not like you can do something at 30 that you can't do at 29 (or 28, etc).. Your whole argument is based on the fact that you can't play the way you want.. well you can! You don't want to though, you want to be 30!! woo 30.. im the specialist person on the internets... this is the same reason everyone uses auto-rifle and shotty in Crucible, they don't want to "play the way they want", they want to be the best, or what they think is 'the best', or what the best is this week.. That isn't playing the way you want, this is conforming to societal norms... way to go snowflake.!

Edited by Trouserdell: 10/30/2014 2:10:21 AMRaid armor to get to level 30 does seem silly when Bungie was all about making your own personal guardian. Well, there are thousands of no-longer-unique guardians out there because there's only one set of armor which brings you to level 30 (and once you have it, why would you drop down to lower-level stuff just to look unique?). I feel as though a legitimately creative person can come up with a lot of armor/weapon ideas. A whole team of creative people should be able to do magical things. Come on, Bungie! Sigh... sorry. Rambled on. I like the seal idea!
-
I've heard this is what Bungie have planned for the DLC. was only hear say though so don't count on it.
-
Sounds good, maybe instead of a seal, it could be a special material dropped as loot from inside the Vault and the gunsmith could forge it into your armor and it might require ascendant shards and other materials to reforge your armor into a better piece with a higher light limit. i like this line of though and maybe it will be incorporated into the game sometime in the upcoming months or at least in one of the coming DLC.
-
This is an excellent idea but I can tell you right now that Bungie isn't going to do it.
-
Iron banner new armor will get you to 30.
-
Also this should also apply to all Rares to be upgradable to Legendary. Some rare gears looks way better than most legendary gear available now. This way we wont look exactly the same brand of Car with only different colors.
-
Awesome idea!
-
The levelling system is shallow as fvck and made even worse by the light levelling, which is probably the worst system I've ever seen in a game of this size. At level 30, everyone looks virtually identical. Bungie fail.
-
I like this idea. Maybe then we can wear something we like. +1
-
TLDR; *exotic
-
We need less random.. not more.
-
I like it, there should be a similar drop to keep weapons from becoming obsolete, as i'm sure if the light level is going up, weapons will get a bit stronger too.
-
They are aware if this and the solution is go play the new IB when it is out
