Ok so everyone feels this way, what's the point of a weapon being "exotic" if they're sold every other weekend by this tool of the nine? The very meaning of exotic is, and I quote "of a kind not used for ordinary purposes or not ordinarily encountered." NOT ORDINARILY ENCOUNTERED!!! They aren't "exotic if everyone encounters them! So here is my suggestion. With every public event, have a new exotic weapon and armor piece. There is a limited amount of time to earn enough reputation with that specific event, to earn yourself a true exotic item. Once the event is over, that's it! It's over, now everyone who toiled and ground out that event to get the exotic, truly has something to be envied. Something that few have earned, and nobody ever will again. THAT IS EXOTIC, THAT IS WHAT WE WANT.
Which brings me to my closing topic. Now everyone on the Destiny team is thinking. Well the people who don't have much time to play are shit out of luck. If it were me I'd say, "yea, to bad." However it's not me, and if you think everyone who badly plays will be sore about it. Implement a "pokemon" style trading system within the tower. This way people can have the oppritunity to trade for an exotic they missed out on. END RANT: EAT MY SHORTS XÜR

The only problem with your "yea, too bad" attitude is that Bungie would be bankrupt in a year. If the ONLY people who are going to get exotics are the hardcore gamers, Bungie is screwed. There are not enough of them in general, and certainly not enough of them willing to play the game almost exclusively to maintain a viable business. Then you would have nothing to play.

Your point of view seems limited. Play the game long enough and everyone has everything, so then where is this odd sense of superiority/uniqueness your insisting on? No matter how rare an item it will eventually become commodity simply by being sought by so many: There is an economic model at work even without trading. I have been blessed with an embarrassment of golds and purples, so much that I haven't even fired some of them. I only relied on Xur the first month or so… I can't prove anything, but I've compared notes with others with good drops and I observe this: it 'seems' that if you make a point of clearing each section of a mission and not jumping to checkpoints out of boredom/shenanigans/etc and by using as many different Abilities the game rewards those players. I know I regularly walk away with a satisfied feeling even when I don't get some grand prize - and those Tiger strikes I gave my all, slapping Sepik Prime, Super-blasting it, using every weapon, taking every opportunity to squeeze out another Dreg headshot… this is when I was dropped Last Word, Gjallerhorn, etc, Now, I suspect there is an invisible bad-ass ranking of some sort that is measuring the 'Bungie balance' to game play and rewarding/tiliting it. This is from comparing notes with others and just an opinion, but it works for me and others.

Personally I feel that earning the strange coins is enough to receive the exotics from xur. They've put in more time on the game instead of getting a lucky drop 4 it

1 ReplyI dislike your idea simple because it screws casual gamers and those of us adults that work for a living, we have other commitments and only play a few hours on the weekend, how do you expect us to accomplish your task for earning exotics in such a short period? Everyone should have fun in a game and have an equal chance to earn exotic and legendary gear. Especially since this game revolves around only having the best gear to proceed to new content. That would just crush casual gamers in this.

What makes an item exotic is the extra or unique perks that the weapon possesses. The rarity is not what determines a weapons 'quality,' only the number and type of perks it has. That's why you're only allowed one exotic weapon or armor at a time. Raid weapons and armor are essentially exotic level legendaries.

By definition exotic is extremely rare but by definition of the game exotics have a special perk that makes you choose how you want to play and think about your loadout that is why you can only have one at a time. If they were meant to be exotic as in extremely rare you'd be able to equip every exotic after endless grinding to get the ones you want

I agree that exotics should be less accessible, but by trading aren't you allowing everyone the opportunity to receive the guns you want to be hard to earn? it kind of is self defeating.

I always assumed that they were called exotic because of the "exotic" perk. Of course not all the perks are particularly exotic. I mean, how about legendaries? What's legendary about a gun you can buy from a vendor and have multiple copies?

1 ReplyI have yet to receive my first exotic that's my class, so why don't you stop your whining and let other people have the exotics they want? If you don't like to encouter other people who have the same exotic you have, then don't use your exotic! Then you can at least make other people's exotic weapons/armor feel more exotic. Dismantle it. You can get a nice yellow shard for it! Yeey! I've been waiting for months now for Xur to sell the exotic items I want. If Bungie will make it even harder to earn strange coins (no matchmaking for weekly's) and Xur keeps selling specific weapons/armor only once per two, three months then what's the friggin fun in the game? You can only use one exotic weapon and one exotic armor piece at the same time, so this makes the chance that you encounter someone who has exactly your weapon/armor even smaller. Besides that, people who are below level 20 are (for some weird reason) not even allowed to use something exotic! Why? Will they break it? Will they be too powerful? We don't want that! It's not that we're under attack by evil aliens! So stop saying &!#^%&^$% like "we all feel this way"^. A lot of people don't feel the way you feel. The definition of exotic is by the way "not native" unless you're talking about an exotic dancer.... he/she can be native...
