Suggestion - "The Wall" game mode.

Hey folks, I'm sure there have been a few ideas like this but I thought I'd put my two cents out here, who knows - maybe Bungie will see it and it might inspire some folks. Many people (myself included) would like to see/interact with the City more, and I feel one meaningful way of doing this will be to defend it and it's citizens in a City defense game mode I've titled "The Wall." So, like a Gears of War Horde/Halo Firefight style game mode - you can have ever-increasingly difficult waves of Fallen [i](one House decides to make a radical attack on the city for plunder[/i]) or The Hive [i](Hive seeder lands dangerously close the the City Walls) [Not sure how Cabal would fit into this but I'm sure that we could add them in too, but for lore's sake I will stick with Fallen/Hive)[/i] attack the city in various, random locations on the Wall. Each attack scenario should be randomized to encourage replay value and remove the overall sense of repetitiveness some of the end game is (in my opinion) currently giving. Randomized scenario could include the following: -Different sections of the wall with different structural fortifications, with a unique backdrop. -Randomly positioned defensive turrets (if any) -Random Enemy type (difficulty increases with each wave), and Random battle modifiers (ie Epic, Flashlight ect,) -Random Battle Events as the fight continues, like a Fallen Kell's dropship entering the fray - then the Kell boarding the wall. Or, Walker tanks enter from the rear and destroy a section of the wall, and move in. The fact that these are random means you won't know exactly what type of experience you'll get each time you enter. -Mini-bosses and the like, but not every 10th Wave - whenever! -Mini-games, Save the Citizens that are caught outside the wall, defend the armory, Destroy their generators/gun positions/hero units - whatever! -Ability to call in heavy ordnance from the tower - Call down Battleframes, mark enemies for ship strikes, direct cannon fire, or even push forward and take the fight to the enemy. You could have new Bounties for this specific type of mode - there are the obvious Don't Die, Kill this many, Shoot this many in the face - but you could also have "Save the citizens, Destroy enemy gun positions" I'm sure many Guardians will enjoy the feeling of defending their home against the ever approaching Darkness, and I'm sure it will help create a sense that the city IS actually in danger and under constant threat. I'll try and Photoshop together some artwork and edit it in to support this idea once I get some time to do so. TLDR - Would be cool to have a City Defense mode located on the City Wall that worked like Horde/Firefight but was meaningful to help defend the city and randomized enough to allow for lots of replay value. Is the city taken by the darkness?" What a great question! So I thought about it and this could simply be another instance of the Wall mode, where you re-enter the captured district, fight through the streets and push the enemy back to the breach in the wall. Once there, you and your fire-team need to hold the breach long enough for city engineers to patch the hole and fortify it, while defending those engineers. It would give us a great chance to actually roam the streets of the City we live in - and only speaking for myself here, I'd love to protect the innocent citizens below the Tower in a real way, all for the immersion. EDIT: I wanted to add another cool suggestion from selhime "Sounds really fun I would also like to explore the city after the battle to gear up for the next large battle." This made me think of a cool rewards system and incentive to protect the innocent. If you save Citizens, you could walk down to the staging area behind the wall, or in the street, and have them greet you - and possibly give you an Engram they've been holding on to for saving their life.     • This is a really bad idea. Based on how well they did with PoE its best not to suggest anything. It's like asking an evil genie for something. You could ask for a super nice car but it would be parked in the ocean. You could suggest Bungie makes a certain game mode but they will F it up anyways.

    • This idea is actually quite similar to the battle of Twilight Gap. The fight involving The Iron Lords, Saint-14, Osiris and others. Through flashbacks or through being put back in time by the Vex, your idea could become a reality. Perhaps the Vex are trying to halt the defence of the Six Fronts, ensuring the City's demise? The Stranger/Praedyth finally knowing of the Vex's power sends you back to the battle. Maybe in this version Skolas isn't stopped by the Queen. Honestly. Bungie have made it so any plot could be viable, they've got time travel, Skolas reviving the house of Wolves by using Vex constructs.. Praedyth sending messages through time, Taken that aren't taken because they have [u][i]their own[/i][/u] will (Malok). I honestly wanna know how Skolas, who has no knowledge of Vex technology is able to use it to [i][u]bring Fallen to the future[/u][/i].. If he can do it, why can't we? Bring back all the Guardians we lost and assault the Darkness in force.

      And how cool would it be if you just started a character and when you got woken up by floodbot and there is a wall defense happening around you and it's the defending guardians' job to get him to the khvostov etc

      • I like this idea alot. Firefight modes have always been a win for shooters. Imagine being in the tower after a raid on Kings Fall and you hear sirens go off all over the tower calling all guardians, and the door over by the speaker opens up for all guardians to prep for the defense of the city. In there would be special vendors/ reputation's, map's showing the attack locations below. There will be drop ships waiting, you can jump in with people in the tower and when it fills up and the timer runs out the ship will drop you down below to defend the city. They could have a clock in the tower that shows the last time since an attack too. Or what if you got a "defense ghost" that would go off when the city was attacking no matter where you are in the world. The possibilities here would be endless. Thanks for the post OP. I like it.

        • Should add npc allies as well. Let's see some of the vanguard or shaxx or any other named guardians in action. Or even just random no name npc guardians. or even non guardian military

            Faction wars can be with this.like maybe in the story when your defending the wall and one person from a faction shoots someone from another faction wile everybody else is defending the city(preoccupied).And after defending the city the person who shot him/her calls it an accident when confronted with the speaker. The tower's has levels like floor's.the enemy's will have to make it over the wall through the city up the levels(of the tower).this will make the event long lasting almost like a raid for the darkness and instead of us raiding they are.when the enemy's make it to the tower they have to capture zones(like in pvp)all the way up to the top floor(where the guardians are)wile other enemy's just use a ship to get there.Let there be a lot of bosses at once.

          • That would go great with the FWC faction. They believe the final war is inevitable (they have seen the future and it's grim) and want to be best prepared to defend the city and the tower. It could be set up by them and they could be the ones with all the bounties and loot. I like it! Imagine if you could do it with up to 6 people too in a large scale wall defense. The teamwork would have to be on point to make it far. Good idea, man!
