College graduates, Older Gens, Speak up

I was planning on posting this link as well. Listen, it is not slander first of all to that guy that said that above. It's a "feedback" forum. It's an opinion and feedback is inherently negative and positive so saying this is slander regardless of the truth behind it is ridiculous. I think a major point that this guy makes in his video that is brushed over is the age of players that games like this attract. I don't know about all of you but I am a college graduate and I play with my friends that graduated college with me. Somewhere along the line of my gaming life I became attracted more to games that require thought and strategy in achieving something. I became proud of the effort and time I put into a game to become a better player. This game was advertised as just that, a puzzle with infinite solutions. An endless environment with an ever evolving story. This game and games like this draw a crowd that enjoys using their brain to solve and explore. This game is tailor made for an older generation. With that being said, the actual game that was released is most definitely without a doubt geared toward a younger crowd in order to maximize revenue. The caps are in place, in vanguard and crucible alike, to allow the younger generation of gamers to be successful in a world amongst many who take their games seriously. I have a full time job, a college diploma, a house, bills, and not much free time and the time I do have I spend on destiny. It is a serious let down that my hard earned money was spent on a game that does not allow me to use my brain to it's fullest extent when that was it's original intention. $60 is no small chunk of change when I have bills rolling in every time I turn around. The issues are more than just content. It is an issue of geopolitics and economics that led to this game letting many people down. I hope people take this seriously because games like this draw millions of dollars from dedicated gamers that deserve a company and a game that adheres to us that want to feel like our money was well spent. Edit: I am not trying to knock the younger gen gamers here. I am trying to say that the issues in this game are far more than just a lack of content. My point was that as an older generation of gamers we have the ability to express our concerns with a $60 purchase besides just saying "this game sucks and screw bungie" The issues are far beyond a story that lacks substance. The issue is that I can play this game with little or any mental stimulation besides good graphics and music. I want missions that require time and thought. Gear that must be worked towards over time. Not an exotic chest armor for killing a level 7 dreg 100 times. Edit #2: Regarding the few people that are responding with things like, stop whining and younger kids are better than older gamers. Just stop nobody on this post is even trying to insult anyone or say one gen is better than the other. Nobody is whining. Nobody is saying destiny blows. I am not saying $60 is a stretch or too much money. $60 is $60. Ok? It's not a million but it is $60 nonetheless. This game was supposed to be "groundbreaking", "innovative", the "evolution of gaming". Would you call it any of those things? I like this game. I have gotten tons of hours of enjoyment out of it. Would I say I got as much enjoyment as I expected after a month of playing? No not quite. I will continue to play this game. Spoiler Alert: I will be buying the DLC. I love getting flamed for posting feedback of my own opinion on a Feedback forum. Of all the posts on this forum I would still have to say I have seen better written and well thought out posts on here then on many others so were doing something right.

i've got you all beat as far as I can tell - pushing the far side of the Destiny bell curve at a little over 50 years old, three kids (one in college), MBA - Marketing and Logistics. Been a gamer since Wizardry was hot on the Apple 2, and I'm pround to say I actually was one of the first on my block to own a Pong unit. Have to say my favorite games included NASCAR Rumble, NFS Most Wanted, and the TombRaider series. Had been consistently ranked in the top 100 for PS4 FFA in Ghosts until Destiny came out. So I'm familiar with good FPS games. The problem as I see it was that Bungie oversold the game - a classic case of an EXPECTATIONS MANAGEMENT FAILURE. is Destiny a marginal FPS for PvP ? - no. Is Destiny a great PvE ? - no. does Destiny live up to the promise of a great story and an expansive, interactive environment ? - no. I choose to think that Destiny is in its infancy, the terrible twos are next in line with the DLC expansion packs. Destiny as a franchise has potential, but to date it has not lived up to the expectations from prerelease.

As a college graduate, I can firmly state that this guy was the guy in your philosophy class with his laptop open to Wikipedia so that he could quote articles in order to sound intelligent. You know, that guy who you really wanted to slap like a bitch.

  • I'm 45 with wife and kids and the whole nine yards. I pre-ordered the DLC and intent to keep grinding until it comes out and I enjoy playing with my friends where we can advance at our own pace. However, I definitely expected a lot more depth to the story for the first month of play and absolutely hate being forced into crucible to get my a$$ kicked six ways from Sunday by super talented ninjas who would tea bag their own grandmother for a laugh. Crucible needs a way to match up players with similar skill levels.

      • I got a group of older gamers that have the house, wife, 2.5 kids and we just play in the evening to have fun and joke around. The lack of content is a bit of a drag but we hope for more content to come. as long as they don't force open PVP in the world we will remain content.

      • A lot of people are fixated on the $60 price point, and making the assumption that every player will only put $60 into the base purchase of the game is not entirely accurate. Especially given the advertising and timed exclusivity with Sony, some unfortunate souls took the jump to buy a PS4 solely to better experience Destiny. A $400 dollar initial investment for a further $60 dollars to get the base game with the knowledge that they would have to spend an additional $30 on the DLC. That's damn near $500 sunk for the game, not small change by any means, not life changing, but a serious investment to be sure. These are the people I think about when I find short-comings in this game. I only spent $60, but if I had gone through and purchased a PS4, got the deluxe edition and came out with this game the way it is I would be blind with rage and utter disappointment. Not everyone shares the same situation, and though there may be silver linings that is not the correct compensation.

        • Even if all of his points are valid all I saw was a guy saying there wasn't enough content and mental challenge while he himself showed nothing but the most monotonous part of the game. There's a word that comes to mind... guess. Don't tell me your unhappy with the story, content, and player interaction while showing me the cruicible.

Unfortunately you come across as insulting, and then it sounds like you are trying to cover up for what had been said in your original post. Lol... This is an observation from a 41 year old who has an MBA and runs his own company. :-p ... And if it's such an insult to your intelligence why have you spent hours and hours and hours playing this game with multiple guardians that you created?? ... Once again another hypocrite that has achieved the attention he was looking for...

          • I am all of those things I like fps and mmo. I thought this would have more mmo... I enjoy questing and leveling and raiding and raising faction levels. It's nice to do it with a team and guns now I do feel more mmo aspects are coming down the line and until then I am still happy doing the things above. I said to my friend, some of these younger people I don't think know what they're getting into. I think I was right. I fully anticipated an mmo playstyle/speed. I know they didn't. Those are the ones who will bail in a month. The Destiny world will then probably be a greater portion of players who wanted a more mmo experience. Good. I don't know.

          • I agree. I'm 25 and I have a young family and a full time job. Games have always been a big part of my life and although destiny is fun it isn't mentally challenging or stimulating. I especially agree with the fact about rare items being so easy to obtain. One of my favourite games when I was younger was Runescape. I loved how I couldn't get the best items in the game until I had been playing for a long long time. Even when I was a high enough level to kill the monsters to get these weapons it was still difficult and required planning and often a team of players with the right skills and gear. My favourite bosses were the Dagganoth Kings, for this fight you had to run through a maze of enemy filled tunnels for about 10 minutes before you got to the bosses and when you got there the fight required a lot of coordination and teamwork. These bosses were the only enemies to drop certain items which was also a massive incentive to kill them. I hoped Destiny would have more RPG qualities which required me to plan lengthy boss fights and missions. I do love destiny but it's not quite the game I was hoping for. Hopefully the DLC will bring the content everyone is after.

I would agree with you accept this is a FPS with grind mmo mechanics - two genres that require the least thought. Also, arguably, it is the older generation such as myself (I'm only 31 but, you know...) who want to just veg after work and play something reaction and grind based rather than puzzle based. So I don't really agree with that assessment either. Disclaimer: I currently can't view the video Edit: I do agree that lv5 dregs should not be walking around carrying exotic items. Bad for the mechanics and simply doesn't make sense narrative wise

The core problem is that gaming has grown enough to become a mainstream industry. And that means games MUST appeal to the mainstream audience in order for game companies to make an acceptable profit. The gaming industry mirrors the film industry in many ways. It's the same conflict of ideas and substance vs budget and income. Why was the Robocop remake rated PG13 when original was rated R? Why are we seeing so many cute "Tween" versions of our childhood nightmare inducing monsters? Because that's where the money is. Adult, educated and tight budget gamers sift through the mega million hype advertisements and are selective about where they spend thier hard earned cash on. Couple that with an on going ressession and game companies are not making enough money from intellectual gamers to earn back thier bloated budgets. They simply must target the younger more frivolous audience in order to be a financial succes. The touted $500 million dollar investment of Destiny had to be reimbursed some how. That should have been clue number one that this game was going to be cramed with "more accessible" (Dumbed Down) gameplay features. The content of this game is disappointing, and more than a little sad, but not surprising in today's gaming industry.

The problem with this game, is honestly the community. I have no problem waiting for the game to slowly release, and kinda reluctant to pay for it, but i will. Please Nerf This I don't ask the government to nerf my work because my boss is being a hard ass Please Buff This How it sensible to ask my boss to increase my salary because other ppl are getting more money... What?? RNGesus is not fair Sigh... Life isnt fair, suck it up I Got Killed By [this type of gun] take it away Similar to my earlier point, but, take away my manager because my manager is giving me alot of work...? what.......... DeeJ read this Lol, what if i tell you... You have no power over DeeJ?? As you can see, i reference the real world alot. A game will just be a game, but with youth plundering their time into games like this, you can't help but wonder, will it affect their personality in real life?? Open discussion, will reply if i have time.

49, Been around the block. I enjoy getting lost in the worlds that I visit in my video games. We all know the games. I have been playing FF14 ARR. It is rated teen. Out of the box FF had more content, more story then Destiny. I expected the same or better. Destiny came after FF. Some back story quickly. The original FF14 failed. For some of the same things we are complaining about. It was scraped and re-worked. They had to nail it. They would lose big time. They did nail it. This is new to Bungie? Or is it? You would think Bungie would come out of the corner swinging, best foot forward. They didn't. I enjoy the gameplay mechanics, the graphics. That's it. I can't believe so much stuff is missing. Not just the story, but the tools to complete this game. It is sad.
