Deej: The truth, critical thinking, and final argument.

I have watched this video in its entirety. I realize it is long, but unlike pro Destiny/Activision rhetoric, the truth is a little more complex, and you not taking the time to understand what is going on is what they are counting on. What we have here is the ultimate anti-fanboi argument. Contained in this video is every thing we critical thinkers have been trying to express, only to be freight trained by the deluded masses. The masses: those of us who have successfully been indoctrinated by the Lord of Profiteering: Activision. Why do people persist in defending what has taken place here? It could simply be lack of intelligence or the ability to critically think, but more likely it is pride: The fanboi ego cannot admit to the truths in this video, it has gone too far for him, in his mind there is no way back. Humility is not a word in his vernacular. In a world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, we are brainwashed via corporately owned news outlets (see: Fox News, any Murdoch newspaper) to blame each other for the situation instead of looking at those in power, those with the wealth controlling every thing. Profit is increasingly becoming a dirty word. Or at least it should be. To all the nay sayers, i give you this: You have been conditioned to disagree with the rhetoric you see here. They have achieved this because they are smarter than you. Swallow your pride and open your mind. It is time to become a critical thinker, not just a consumer, with 2D personality. For a better understanding of how corporations have become so powerful Government cannot control them, and how they are shafting us in every market we participate in, i recommend a Youtube channel called "The Trews" by a critical thinker called Russel Brand (previously a comedian). Profit has now fully infected the games market, that is why $500 million buys us a gutted husk of a game such as Destiny, Watchdogs, Titanfall and others. To Deej i say (as he is apparently reading all this): please let your bosses know that we know what occurred here. EDIT 1: To those saying i jumped on some sort of bandwagon with this video, here i link my previous thread, some weeks old, in which i make a weak effort in tackling this subject: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/71096924/0/0 EDIT 2: It's a tough challenge, trying to protect people who fight to defend the system hurting them. EDIT 3: All big business is owned by the 1%. And thusly they don't care where you spend your money, as long as you do. The power of consumer choice is a lie. Pick up your Destiny box and read the back, it literally says "rich cinematic story telling". Can you see the problem there? EDIT 4: Best insult received: "Also, I find your username hilariously perfect. Do you refer to your house as "The Superiority Complex"?" lel Final Edit: I have just read the details of The Dark Below, and it will not fix the inherent failures of this game. They are pushing forward with this hacked up iteration of Destiny. They sold us one game, delivered another, and for better or for worse this is it now. It is a game aimed at the 12yr olds, the CoD generation, and I am out. I will boost friends in the raid only until I can trade this in for GTA V. See you Manhattan-side for The Divison, Guardians!

  • I agree with the private sector part. The whole "vote with your wallet" thing is a scam in it's own right. No matter what, they're still getting your money

      • First off, I want to say that I enjoyed Destiny over the last weeks (playing since launch day), even though I discovered the weaknesses in story-telling (in fact they are too obvious to overlook them) and the very much praised grade of customizing your character for myself. ... My head is filled with stuff I want to say and is hard find a point to begin with. I still have hope (even for multi-player [PvP], which still has balancing issues) because Bungie constantly claims that Destiny is a project the developping and new stuff will come eventually. Of course this could be done by adding dlc that could've been part of the game at launch ... I don't know. The person who made the video has one point for sure: We gamers buy never-changing games in hope to see and experience new things (like CoD ... btw I don't do that anymore ... what could I possibly miss), but by doing so we support the vicious circle. Fear to be excluded (especially when your friends decide to buy the game) could be another reason. Don't be afraid, people. Your courage can make others revise and that might lead to changes in the development of new games.

Something that would really serve as sending a message to publishers and developers in general that we as a community are fed up with mediocrity and this kind of tactics would just be not playing destiny for an entire weekend. Simply having their servers almost completely empty would show that everyone is getting together and sending a message and that message is: "Enough." That would create enough coverage to send a definitive message across the gaming industry that everyone from activision to ubisoft and EA would hear: Gamers are not stupid and can get organised, they should be working hard to earn our money not false advertising, cutting corners and selling half a game and asking for more money on DLC after 2 months. Things need to change or this trend will only be getting worse.
"Vote with your wallet."
I was just about to post that and then you said it in the video. Fun fact: There is a trend where the greatest games don't make nearly as much money as AAA titles. Just look at the original Final Fantasy, before Square Soft was about to go out of business, they decided to make one more fantasy game hence "Final Fantasy". This is the game that saved them. After a while, Final Fantasy games started becoming mainstream and redundant by trying to appeal to a broader audience. Many longtime FF fans were disappointed. Then Square Enix went back to their roots and released Bravely Default and they loved that game. Let me give another example, Fire Emblem Awakening. Taken from: "Fire Emblem Awakening was almost the last Fire Emblem game" @ destructoid http://www.destructoid.com/awakening-was-almost-the-last-fire-emblem-game-254352.phtml
"Fire Emblem: Awakening surprised just about everyone with its critical and commercial success. In Japan, the 3DS strategy RPG had sold over 400K units through June 2012, and it's likely continued to grow since then. In the US, digital and retail numbers totaled 240K as of this past April. And in the UK, it launched at number three on the software charts, boosting 3DS hardware sales by 49%. Yeah, the game's been doing pretty damn well for itself. According to Awakening co-producer Hitoshi Yamagami, the future of the series was riding entirely on the game's success. In a translated interview with Spanish magazine Hobby Consola, Yamagami said, "Truth be told, sales are dropping. The sales manager of Nintendo, Mr. Hatano, told us that this could be the last Fire Emblem. Due to this progressive descent in sales, they told us that if the sales of this episode stayed below 250,000 copies, we'd stop working on the saga. I remember when I came back from the meeting and told the team, 'My God, what are we gonna do?! The end has come!' Our reaction was clear: If this was going to be the last Fire Emblem, we had to put everything we always wanted to include." Needless to say, Awakening went on to blow waaaaaay past that number. So rest easy, my friends! Fire Emblem shall live on!"
Moral of this story is; If you are going to make a video game, treat it as if it's the last video game you will ever make.

        • I've been playing this game almost exclusively since launch, and while I have been really enjoying myself, I have to say this guy makes some pretty interesting speculation. If I had to bet on anything it would probably be that the dumbing down the game to appeal to a larger market is pretty accurate.

          • Just because I enjoy the game and actually took the time to find some of the story stuff and read the Grimoir doesn't mean I'm unintelligent. I feel like I got my money's worth from this game.

              • Dear Sir/Madam/Genderless Forum Entity: We will, for the moment, assume you are unfamiliar with the art of persuasive writing. Instead, we would like to bring attention to the multiple logical fallacies that have somehow crept into the post of a self-proclaimed critical thinker. Please note that because you have chosen to include the linked video uncritically in your post, the assumption is that you agree with it wholly. Ad Hominem: The bulk of your post is an ad hominem attack on anyone disagreeing with you position. If, as you presume, their position is invalid you should be able to address the various arguments on their merits (or lack thereof) rather than denigrating the presenters. Confirmation Bias: In the first minute and a half of the linked video, the speaker claims as a fact that pay locked, fully-developed content is included on the disk. This is an unsupported claim at best and at worst blatantly false. Numerous individual familiar with software development have explained why what has thus far been uncovered does not amount to "fully-developed content" for any reasonable value of the phrase. Deceptive presentation: The video frequently switches back and forth between PVE gameplay showing developed but locked areas and PVP gameplay, often while continuing to talk about 'locked content." For those unfamiliar with the game or simply not playing close attention, the impression is that the entire sequence shows the alleged "locked content." More confirmation bias: The speaker provides only negative options for the reasons for locked content on disc without taking into account that different teams program different aspects of the game. It is entirely possible that the team responsible for geometry completed their work ahead of other programming teams. Further, the speaker ignore the possibility of a critical mass value for any given content: the point at which more workers contributing to a given section no longer positively correlates with outcome. Confirmation bias: The removal of a single scene (or even the entire sub-arc to which it belonged) does not indicate a complete rewrite of the entire story. Nor does it, despite assumptions, indicate it would be included in the initial release Confirmation Bias, pt 4: In his discussion of the loot system/trading, the speaker fails to take into account that his entire argument regarding randomness and rarity of items hold equally true regardless of the existence of trading. (Say it with us) Confirmation Bias: The presenter's decision to believe an anonymous post regarding the story without any means of verification. Additionally, the present fails to note that a large portion of what Deej disavowed in his second example was the same speculation presented in the first. Ego Stroking/ Ad hominem: The entire section regarding weak vs strong players contains a not inconsiderable amount.

                      • People need to learn the difference between "advertising" and "hey, here's this game with stuff that we are working on". I have yet to see a single advert that claims all of this cut content that people are crying about. E3 is not advertising, so don't even bring it up. Every game has things cut during alpha and beta builds because of various reasons. I'm sure that I can find countless E3 videos where they talked about something that was currently being developed that ended getting cut from the final product. Sorry to be so blunt, but if you are angry because of things that were said during the E3 conference, you're a moron. The video did make some good points on other subjects however, but purely speculation that are based on rumors, zero facts, and fueled by a personally biased opinion on the matter. Learn how to research in a neutral, unbiased way before you embarrass yourself with a video such as this and start by claiming all the damning proof you found during your "research". Laughable. • Nice video. So that's why no voice chat in crucible? Is because of the T rating? These videos kill me to watch, the potential that this game has/had was incredible. Imagine playing faction missions, going to Mercury, Old Chicago.. Even "the black heart" being in the traveller, this story was completely butchered and I can tell just by playing this hollow repetitive game. I bought it Digitally. The first and last time I will ever do that. Because of this I will keep it and hope that one day this game lives up to my expectation.
