I had someone tell me this during a raid last night when I told them to take left plate.
I asked 'em, "What do you plan on doing when they patch the raid and change it to random teleports and you have no idea what to do when it comes to the other positions?" It's not like it's rocket science, but still.
He said, "I go on bnet everyday and I didn't see anything about that." I booted him from the fireteam and we beat it with 5 players.
Point is, learn the other positions... learn them all. It makes rotating to a different position very easy when something bad happens (deaths). You'll also be ready for when they patch the raid. Too many times have I seen people being told, "You're doing this." or "I need you for this. Go here." and they're like, "I only kill oracles."

I definitely have positions that I favor, like the left Conflux on the Templar encounter or being on the outside team during Atheon, but I've taken the time to learn how to play other roles to be more flexible.
-
I only kill enemies. Sorry.
-
You're a collossal dick.

I agree with your idea in principal. But there are some people I wouldn't trust to boil water without burning it, let alone carry the relic. Some people just suck at gaming. The real problem is when they are genuinely nice people and they suck.
-
I play different each raid. It depends on who I run with and what they bring to the table. I'm comfortable doing anything at any point in the raid. That's what makes it so enjoyable. One run I may be relic, the next I may be defense. But honestly I love grabbing the relic and portaling out and defending the conflux with the relic ( it does work) and letting someone else who was defending rotate in and go portal.

I'm good with the last fight but there are other parts I don't know well enough. being level 30 I've started gettnig invites to friends hard raid groups and get assigned portal team duty. before that I always did normal and gate duty. well it didn't take long to find out that my handcannon and my blue auto rifle were not enough to take out oracles. so then I get assigned to shield duty, and I'm like I never touched the shield before. "youll figure it out" was the first response. then they told me the basics and I figured out more. spent hours on the shield now to help them and learn it. I've gotten pretty good though the praetorian on hard tends to give me trouble sometimes when it lags or glitches. I'll join even with no reward just for the experience.

For me, I love being that guy who knows all the aspects of the raid, and can help teach all roles. That and, if you can handle any position, anyone will have you on their fire team. We are a dying breed man!
-
I can kill Oracles while on Portal team, and I can and have been the only Defender during the Atheon phase. Only thing I can't do is use that f'ing Relic.
-
That's why it always fills me with joy being able to say I can do all positions really well but I specialize in using the relic. "Where do you need me" is what my team mates hear most from me since I can do all.

I still can't believe there are people out there like that. Then complain about repetitiveness lol
-
He deserved that. -blam!- people man.

People just don't want to learn. The last boss is easy. The only 2 things that should take you down is unlucky hobgoblin snipe or supplicant after going through the portal.
