"I Only Kill Oracles"
I had someone tell me this during a raid last night when I told them to take left plate.
I asked 'em, "What do you plan on doing when they patch the raid and change it to random teleports and you have no idea what to do when it comes to the other positions?" [i]It's not like it's rocket science, but still.[/i]
He said, "I go on bnet everyday and I didn't see anything about that." I booted him from the fireteam and we beat it with 5 players.
Point is, learn the other positions... learn them all. It makes rotating to a different position very easy when something bad happens (deaths). You'll also be ready for when they patch the raid. Too many times have I seen people being told, "You're doing this." or "I need you for this. Go here." and they're like, "I only kill oracles."

I agree. None of the roles to do is hard to learn. I look forward to the patch as its going to mix it up a little bit but it's not going to make it harder as some believe it will. What i would like is for Atheon to actually move around the room and not just stand there as the real threat in the fight are the mobs as its easy not to be hit by Atheon besides the splash damage that enters the relic shield. They need to make him more of a threat and lessen the mobs a little bit so you won't be too overwhelmed.

3 RepliesYour post reminds me of one from 2 days ago about Raid Pet Peeves (basically things that piss you off in a Raid) and Lovetrees wrote this classic: Short bus Tommy dancing or running around near Atheon. When asked to get back to the group the response is always " oh I got this bro". Five nano seconds later Tommy's dead and we get to wipe. Guess you didn't have it...... Bro.

2 RepliesI learned to use the relic yesterday. I mean I knew how it worked, but never used it exclusively. Valuable learning experience, everyone should learn how to use it for sure.

So, there's a bit of hesitation there that a raid group can't really afford. So that leaves one option; everyone goes after the relic, and who gets it gets it. Sure, it adds some variety for those who want it. But, it also introduces a potential problem. Those who are unfamiliar may be looked down upon in a raid setting, and may ultimately lead to inexperienced players not getting chosen to join a raid team. And if a raid group takes a chance on an unfamiliar player, they may suffer full team wipes that they otherwise wouldn't have, just because of the one inexperienced player. And now for a quote from OHBMAJORV: [i]So on one hand you say "matchmaking for raids won't work because you need a strong organized team to complete the raid" On the other hand you say "we're going to completely randomize the encounter so strategy is out the window"[/i] In other words, the final raid encounter is less structured teamwork, and more organized chaos. No bueno man, no bueno.

7 RepliesI know right! The other day a buddy of mine who is a janitor was told he is randomly being assigned to accounting. He was like "I don't know how to do this", and they fired him. I told him years ago he should never get good at one thing and just learn everything; too bad he didn't listen. Then get this my son comes home from school, and I tell him "go clean your brothers room". He has the nerve to tell me "I don't know where his stuff goes, he never lets me in his room". Needless to say I only have one kid now.

Edited by Angelina Sov: 10/23/2014 10:00:15 PMYes it's important to learn all positions or groups in the raid Emergency situations will happen, and now it seems randomness is going to be an addition, but booting him from the fireteam because he said something you didn't want to hear was honestly unnecessary [i]imo[/i]. Come in as a team. Finish as a team.

I can hold the relic, I can defend the conflux, I can defend the plate, I can solo gatekeepers (About to upgrade a rocket to solo them on hard as well) and I get a team that can't do the part they're assigned to do. So what do I do? I switch the players around and I do the part they were failing on and another player messes up on the part they were given... Ex, I get relic, nobody defends plates properly, gates never open, Supplicants are abundant like a bunny orgy... So I decide to defend outside and clear up the mess. Now the group that goes in gets killed by enemies or lets the Oracles wipe us... So I get relic again and guess what? Supplicants! Oh, and when they finally get their act together, the game glitches and Atheon hits us within the shield... Fun TIMES!

4 RepliesSound more like a dick raid lead to me. So instead of taking one of your portal guys and switching them (because I assume your OTHER players were versatile because they didn't get kicked) you decided to deny him the boss kill and boot from the FT. It would've been a nice gesture to complete the fight, then send him off with that little piece of advice that is "Hey man, FYI they're switching mechanics up soon you may want to read up on the other positions" It's not entirely his fault that due to the fact that the mechanic has always ported the three furthest players, he has learned that role and has not needed to learn any others, yet. Myself, I was on my 5th raid before I actually needed to pick up the relic due to an emergency and learn trial-by-fire style. You want to lead raids with pugs, have a little patience and understanding.

Would you believe I have actually argued against people who say the new patch inhibits learning and preparation? LOL. This patch will make the true raiding community better. In fact, I wish there was a way that we could know via Achievement or something how many sync plates, oracles, relics a player had taken care of successfully.

Lol - he gave randy das boot for being ignorant. I wouldn't want to try to teach someone that "is on bnet everyday" and has no idea about the patch. That's a warning sign to not even waste your time.

he obviously didn't have anyone explain other roles or wasn't able to try other roles. you did a good job contributing to that. I understand you should know how to do everything because you might be one of the few alive doing someone elses role but booting isn't helping.
