Does Rasputin have anything to do with Grigory Rasputin? I thought Rasputin might be be some sort of derivation of this guy. Some quotes: Grigory Rasputin, a wondering peasant who eventually exerted a powerful influence over Nicholas II and Aleksandra, the last Tsar and Tsarina of Imperial Russia, is one of the most mysterious and dark individuals of Russian history. No doubt, the Warmind is equally mysterious and perhaps, dark. Rasputin gained a reputation as a visionary, although some were scared of the boy and thought he was possessed by the devil. It was a time and place where all possible magic and healing powers were a way of life. Grigory himself thought that he was taken over by a higher force. Some Humans pre-collapse may have feared what Rasputin might become....perhaps the Warmind is not totally in control. Rasputin was strongly against the First World War (1914 - 1918) and tried to convince the Tsar to make peace with Germany, but Nicholas held his ground and took Russia to war, which was a disaster for his country, with more than four million Russians loosing their lives. This is a long shot, but what if there is a relation here. If the Tsar is a metaphor for the Traveler, Rasputin, the Warmind, may have realized that a war with the Darkness (Germany) would only ruin his people. By extension Rasputin took the measure of nearly wiping out humanity to save a few that could live to fight another day... I know this theory is a long shot and my ideas are not completely coherent but it was just a thought and I think worth exploring more.

It's pretty obvious that the creators of the game gave the Warmind, that resides in Old Earth, Russia the name Rasputin, and that it's not merely a coincidence. The fact that people don't talk about this too much on the forums though I think is attributed to the fact that most of is just get that there's correlation between the historical figure Rasputin, and the Warmind named after him so there's no real need to "look into it"

  • I think someone should definitely look into Rasputin's link with said historical Rasputin. The connection jumped to my mind the moment I heard about the Warmind. Primarily Grigori Rasputin's odd refusal of death, and how the Warmind was able to survive.
