One more thing to add. The above photo is little Easter Egg from Halo ODST, which was released in 2009 (and the game being in development well before that). If they've had this long to develop and plan the game out, I really dont see why there is so little content...but then Activision stepped in. I loved Bungie since the original Halo. I've gone to conventions to meet them (and even get my copy of Halo 2 signed). But this is just too much. There's no conspiracy. This is all video evidence from only a year ago. I dont care how much games change in their development cycle, it doesnt change THIS MUCH in the final year leading up to release. For those who dont want to watch the video (even though I suggest you do) here are some highlights from the original Reddit post.
Since I started playing Destiny I have had a little itch in the back of my mind, something just didn't seem right. So for the last few weeks I have been looking back at Bungies marketing material for Destiny and this video is what I put together: http://youtu.be/fXW2FEJ4L4E These are my main highlights but more in the video. Out Here in the Wild - Official Destiny ViDoc 22 Aug 2013 - 1 year before release 0:38 "You can go from Earth to Venus to Mars to the Moon, to Saturn" 2:01 Thunder Lord. Talents points needed, different description and unlocks 4:13 Mercury is shown Official Destiny Gameplay Reveal Video 3 Jul 2013 - 1 year before release 7:16 Weapons have no level requirement, only weapon levels. A weapon you get at level 1 is just as effective as a weapon at level 20. This means every weapon is a viable option. Meaning you can use any gun you prefer. Giving you a huge selection. Also this means you can receive amazing weapons even exotics throughout your playthrough from start to finish even on low levels, its a smart way to do loot. Imagine the Iron Banner for instance with two players, one level 20 and one level 22. Both with the same weapon. But the higher level player's weapon doing a bit more damage, sounds like the original idea for the Iron Banner. 7:15 Thunderlord. Glimmer, Weapon Kit and Talent Point needed for upgrade. No upgrade materials. Maybe get talent points for using the weapon? Much more interesting upgrades. 11:22 Talking to speaker. Different layout on the Tower, we see a different area behind the characters. 11:31 Queens brother asks, "Why is the city breathing down my neck", located on earth. Different voice actor? Seems like a different character too. 11:44 A view of Saturn's Rings rendered in game. 11:46 A ship with Dead Orbit logo. Official Destiny E3 Gameplay Trailer 0:15 Larger view of tower, different layout. Tower has armed guards. 1:53 Saturn rendered in game (looks beautiful) 2:14 Mercury Destiny PlayStation 4 Official Announcement 20 Feb 2013 More than a year 1:11 Strike boss fight, room layout is different. 1:24 The Reef playable area. Fallen (guard) to the left, but player's do not have guns. Not under threat, a vender area similar to the Tower? Area is well polished, looks beautiful (will appear in DLC?) Reveal Trailer - Official Destiny ViDoc: Pathways Out of Darkness 17 Feb 2013 - More than a year before release 0:59 Mobile App, New Chapter on Venus: Story Book 1, Chapter 3 Gain Favor with the Queen Venus, Shores of Time "Help the Crow loot the Academy archive" Books? Each with chapters? The Crow character was first mentioned in a Reddit post detailing an alternative story that was dropped. A new story was created. 1:19 Main Menu -The City as Home location -Chapter 3 Shores of Time -Bounty with a One Week Cooldown -Strike Random playlist -Raid is Depth of Darkness, similar in name to the DLC name The Dark Below -Faction Wars, PvP 3:11 Different tower layout, armed guards 3:24 The Reef, created in game. Fallen guard patrolling (a well polished area, more than a year before the games release) 3:42 Lush forest, unknown location. • Sure way to insure nobody pre order Bungie games til they prove themselves again. Still a shady tactic to all those that preordered the game. Personally waited a couple days.. Then got it jus cuz. But its exactly y I suggest people not to play the tool and pre order a game. J swear the more pre orders made the faster the company looks forward to DLC and a newer game that should have been the first

I dropped this up thread, but seeing as how you both mentioned Halo 2 and made the claim that no game changes that much in a year, read this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/better-than-halo-the-making-of-halo-2-article In a nutshell, Bungie's 2003 E3 demo for Halo 2 was "smoke and mirrors" and they had to completely scrap their entire engine and cut story missions left and right, all within the last year of development. There wasn't even supposed to be a Halo 3...

  • I completely undestand where you're coming from and I dont even need to read the article to know what you're talking about. Why? Because when Halo 2 was released, they also released a bonus disk with the LE version. On that disk, Bungie straight up admits they screwed up with the E3 demo. That is the difference between now and then. They communicated with their fans and openly admitted to their faults on a disk that was launched WITH the game. Trust me, I was sorely disappointed when I found this out too. However, look at the campaign of Halo 2 alone compared to Destiny's. It was way more fleshed out than what Destiny had become. Yet with Halo 2, no one seemed to care when that stuff from the E3 demo was cut because Halo 2 turned out to still be a great game and revolutionized online console gaming. Another note, Bungie was also a much smaller dev team back then along with a lot less money to create the game. How is it that we get less content when their team has grown exponentially and they were given $500 mill to play with? My qualms havent only been just because of the content of the game but with Bungie's lack of community support. What happened to the so-called 7th Column? The only responses we have been getting is Bungie being upset that players havent been playing the game to their "rules"

No offense, I think you have on rose colored glasses. I have the LE of Halo 2. They didn't admit that Halo 2 was a mess until years down the road, right around the time Halo 3 was coming out. I think Halo 2 benefited just as much from the time period it was released. Name another massive online console FPS that was released in 2004, especially one on the original XBox. I love Halo, and I love Bungie, but who were they competing with? No one, only everyone's expectations. They could have ported an XBox Live ready clone of Halo CE and people still would've been thrilled. Also, social media was nonexistent, so there was little opportunity for any kind of backlash. The console world is very different now, especially for a cross platform/cross generation release. The fact that you can play Destiny on the 360/PS3/XBox One/PS4 in and of itself is, to me, practically sorcery. And, speaking for myself, I was extremely disappointed (at the time) in Halo 2. Their marketing had promised me a last, desperate, stand on Earth, what I got was the Arbiter. Taking the series as a whole, Halo 2's campaign still is the low point for me, though I appreciate it more now in context. The things that people are claiming "changed" are nitpicking stuff. I watched the 2013 E3 demo, and the only thing that's substantially different is the gear. Considering that it's basically a tech demo, it's entirely possible that they disabled level requirements and preprogrammed drops and gear for their characters, to make it more exciting for the demonstration. I personally didn't follow Destiny's development closely, so I didn't really know what to expect from the game. I played the beta on the 360 before preordering the game, which I bought an XBox One for. I knew that, because of the MMO elements (static world, constantly respawing everything I just killed for the next person who wanders by), I wasn't going to get the same kind of epic, overarching story that Halo offered. I personally like a little mystery and I enjoy the grimoire, but that's also because I played Marathon, though yes, I agree there should be an in game option for the grimoire. I don't think there's any grand conspiracy here, I think the most likely scenario is that, once again, Bungie had more ambition than they could deliver on and had to cut content/features to get to the release, especially considering the cross platform mechanics.

  • Didnt admit their faults until years down the road? Skip to 23:24. If thats not considered admission of guilt then I dont know what is. They also mention they only had a team of 50-60 guys working on it at the time.
