Wait, didn't he create the Aegis out of his Ghost though? How could he have done that if he lost it to the vex? Also "he could see the thoughts of confusion of a young girl crawl across her face" sounds too much like the girl is literally crawling across her face. "he could see the thoughts of confusion crawl across the face of a young girl" Still, good story though!

He killed a gorgon to make that shield! You think there is enough metal on your little ghost for that big ass shield?

  • Hey Grndmaster20, thanks for the compliment. He didn't make it from his ghost, his ghost was 'taken' is all it says. From the Grimoire card about The Aegis,
From my own Light and from the thinking flesh of the Vex I made a shield.
That sentence was a tricky one but I wanted to portray and infer a few things. The first is that it's implied she's a young girl by being a student, I didn't need to restate that. What I wanted to emphasize on was how her confusion was not the same as your confusion, someone older than a young girl. I pictured them to be around 5-7 years old (this is more prevalent in the next story I'm writing), so for them, the confusion is a more basic level. It was a confusion that only a young girl could have, not a confusion any could have but she happened to have. Also, I wanted to kind of hint at her being an Awoken child, as they have those patterns that seem to crawl across their face when they speak with emotion. Hope that clears it up!

  • I'd just like to say if you kill a Gorgon in the raid you get a grimoire card. It explains that Kabr created the shield using a Gorgon that he defeated, since Gorgons can rewrite time, he was able to use it to negate the effects of time tampering, but only within the confines of the shield. Very good read tho 10/10

  • OOOHHH, ok! I haven't killed a Gorgon yet and I had never seen anything about that card. Perhaps the story the Teacher is telling them is a little outdated with what the Guardians have actually found in the Vault of Glass ;)

The Relic: These are the last words of Kabr, the Legionless: I have destroyed myself to do this. They have taken my Ghost. They are in my blood and brain. But now there is hope. I have made a wound in the Vault. I have pierced it and let in the Light. Bathe in it, and be cleansed. Look to it, and understand: From my own Light and from the thinking flesh of the Vex I made a shield. The shield is your deliverance. It will break the unbreakable. It will change your fate. Bind yourself to the shield. Bind yourself to me. And if you abandon your purpose, let the Vault consume you, as it consumed me. Now it is done. If I speak again, I am not Kabr. The Gorgons: Deep in the Vault of Glass, the fabric of reality bends to the will of the Vex. Warlocks speak in tones of awe of the Gorgons - creatures that seem to possess a dreaded, almost unimaginable strength: an ontological weapon. Like the Oracles and the Templar, the Gorgons reputedly possess the ability to define what is and is not real. Whatever they perceive becomes subject to erasure at their will. Until a countermeasure can be found, Guardians must avoid their gaze at all costs - or reply to any detection with immediate, overwhelming force. The Gorgons' ability must be tied to the nature of the Vault of Glass. We can take some solace in the clear fact that the Vex cannot manifest this power in the world outside. Someone did a breakdown of the story in The Vault and it was very interesting. It makes sense that to counter time manipulation, you yourself would need to be able to manipulate the manipulation. Meaning that if the shield was made of an oracle or a gorgon that it would indeed counter them. But again your story was a great read, keep it up!

  • Also if you look at the types of vex located in the portals during the Gatekeeper and Atheon phases, you will notice that the Vex in one look old, and the vex in the other look futuristic. This is due to the fact that Atheon throws the relics between time. In one he sends the relic to the past, and the other the futures, and the one you use against the Templar is in the present. Going along with the lore the relic is Part of the Vault now, and as such, must exist in the past, present and future.

  • Also in the Relic Card it says a few things that are interesting:
I have destroyed myself to do this. They have taken my Ghost. They are in my blood and brain. But now there is hope.

Bind yourself to the shield. Bind yourself to me. And if you abandon your purpose, let the Vault consume you, as it consumed me.
The first quote is what intrigues me. The Vault of Glass' purpose is to allow the Vex to intigrate themselves into time itself, making them always known, implanted into every facet of time. Did Kabr find a way to intigrate himself into the Time Stream of the Vault? Always watching, always helping, in the form of raid weapons, since raid weapons hold bits and pieces of the Story of Kabr, and the Titan Helm is named after him. And the second quote is just as interesting. Bind yourself to the shield. Bind yourself to me. Again did he instead bind himself not only to the time stream of the vault but to the timestream of the Shield, actually altering reality and time to become the shield itself, rewriting himself using the parts of a Gorgon or Oracle to instead make himself a weapon of light? And then he goes on to say let the Vault consume you, as it has me. Does that mean that if we are to be trapped in time or if we cannot defeat the darkness inside, should we too become weapons of light and time, in order to help past, present, and future guardians who stumble across the Vaults? Lots to think about :-D

  • YEEESSSS!!! Thank you so much for all the lore you've posted, it's cleared a lot up for me! I interpreted those quotes the same way you did! I wanted to convey that Kabr was able to weave himself in to the Vault of Glass's reality, something that HAD to exist there no matter what. I didn't even think about what the Guardians should do if they abandon hope, but I'm 100% sure Kabr would want them to lend their strength to the shield as well. You've made this writing worth it!

  • Hm that makes sense. I just know I had to reread the sentence a few times to understand it lol, but that helps to clarify it a lot. On the shield, I swear one of the cards says something about it being made from his ghost (possibly after it died?), maybe I just assumed it was since the middle of the shield looks a heck of a lot like a ghost. I'll have to go reread a bunch of em and get back to you :) Keep the stories coming though. I love how so many people have taken a bunch of lore they found and created intricate stories with them

  • Check the comment by MadCuzBad87, he clears it up! The next story is about Rasputin, I'll be posting it up a little bit later. I'm glad you enjoyed my writing. Others filling in the lore is what really inspired me to want to write about it too. In a way, Bungie being so vague with the lore and story has allowed us to really flex our creative muscles!
