I'm going to go ahead and guess that Staten leaving bungie is the reason the story got gutted so hard. They probably couldnt use a huge portion of his stuff and didnt have the time to implement a whole new set of stuff for the release. Why else would they just cut so much content ? makes no sense to have that much done then just wipe / dumb it down. Im pretty sure the development hell & talent leaving the team that went on with this game is the cause of it coming out a shell of it was said to be.

There's no reason why they wouldn't be able to use the stuff written for them by an employee, even if that employee has now left. That's not how it works.
-
ok. I guess they just cut the story down to below indie levels for kicks lol
-
The sad part is that they could have simply delayed the launch and let the beta be open for an extended period of time like everyone was guessing they would do. That would have given them time to clean this up quite a bit.
-
Delaying the game further would have cost the companies involved a hell of a lot of money. Was never going to happen when there was a releasable game.
-
I wouldn't call this a releasable game. >.>

Then you're wrong. 3 million daily players clocking up hundreds of hours prove you wrong.

The fact that people continue to use that number boggles my mind. You do realize that this is one of the only games to truly play at the moment right? I highly suspect to see that "number" to dwindle starting in November when there are a slew of other games being released. This was a releasable game, but not for $60. The way this game is sitting is more like an Early Access title from Steam where content will be added later until the whole game is complete. I agree that they should have pushed back the release date. But I do understand the business side of it. Had this game given more at release, I could see it being a contender over the next few months, but as it stands, a lot of people will go back to the usual COD. In addition to Halo MCC, DA:I, Sunset Overdrive, and heck even WWE, if the claims of a true CAW story/RPG-ish mode is true. I like Destiny....to a degree. Had fun playing with my cousin. But I won't be spending more money on content that should have been in the game at the beginning.

Those numbers came from Bungie's word and are dubious at best. Their is also the discrepancies that many have noted so far between those numbers and the raw sales numbers that suggest that somewhere approaching half the players are ether non active or have left the game.
