Bans are a little harsh. A 30 min to an hour timeout from the playlist would be more acceptable.

Why not? It will only penalize the people who afk strikes. Normally if people know that don't have time for a strike they don't do one and if something comes up then they can leave. It'll suck for the people left behind but real life takes priority.
