As someone who hasn't been able to tackle the VoG yet mainly because I don't have a fireteam, the upcoming changes to it make me nervous that I'm not going to get to try it. I agree that an exploit that allows the boss to fall off the screen (from what I hear) needs to go, but I ask myself when I finally can get my act together to ask for help to do the VoG, will veterans who have ran through it 100 times be willing to do it with me even though they don't know me all that well? I keep hearing how these changes will discourage teams to take on new members for whatever reason. I hope the rumblings that these changes will discourage first timers from being recruited aren't true.
So to you VoG raid vets out there is that true? Do the VoG changes, minus the boss bumping, discourage raid teams taking on new members or is that paranoid banter?

I've done the raid 7 full times now on normal and twice on hard. I'll still take inexperienced players in with me 26+ (really 27 is ideal). But I'm probably just not going to kill Atheon. Mainly because the reward vs time spent isnt worth it. It can take an hour or so just to kill him depending on your team, and you get 2-3 ascended materials for that. A 28 daily takes me 10 minutes. Same reward
-
Sorry this is inexperience with raiding talking, but what is the point of raiding if you don't kill Atheon? Do you still get drops and everything if you don't kill him? I'm just curious.
-
Yeah, there's 7 reward zones if you don't do anything special. (You can get more rewards for doing special things like not dying or not allowing the Templar to teleport) 1. First chest 2. After killing oracles 3. After killing Templar 4. Chest in a secret hole 5. Chest in Gordon's lair 6. Pre Atheon reward 7. Atheon reward Atheon is only one reward zone But in hard mode I think he is the only one who drops those beastly items, but for normal mode, not worth the effort in certain situations. If you have a team who gets the hang of it then Atheon can be beat in 5-10 minutes. If not, 3 hours

interesting. Good to know. Thanks for explaining that!

This. Talk about penalizing people who haven't even had chance to do it yet... I get patching glitches and exploits, but legit strategies (roles and sniping towers?) - are bungie going to remove all the awarded gear to compensate for the increase in difficulty? No. Or guarantee

Hi, Iam also in need of help, love the game and really want to the the VoG, anybody wanna show me the ropes? iam on PS4 and id : Merlinuf Please give a newbie a hand.
-
We can take you through it
-
Oh THz when? :)
-
Depends on xbox one right?
-
New members? Not a problem. People expecting a carry? They can take a hike.
-
Hi, can you maybe help me then iam only 26 :(
-
"People expecting a carry" ... I assume by that you mean noobs who stay away from the fight but want to collect on stuff. No .... I fight. As long as people can handle the inexperience and that I might do something dumb the first time through I don't expect others to do it for me.
-
Yes I meant that. People who obviously have no clue what they're doing and aren't learning and are there just cause one of their friends set it up. If you are legitimately inexperienced and just didn't know, we brush it off and try again. We've self-wiped so many times cause of -blam!-ups that teaching people not to -blam!-up is just another part of the run for us.
-
Gotta say really discouraged.... My group on ps4 has beat it numerous times and we all agree that if they change the teleporting to random were gonna be done helping people with hardmode. Like some of the others have said its no fun having to explain every little detail and then have people wipe, now factory into it that its gonna be random on whether your inside the portal or out. The new guy gets teleported in and picks up the relic that's gonna be a game over If he doesn't know what to do with it, cause while your telling him what to do (and by telling i mean screaming at him) the oracles will be spawning.

Discourages. GREATLY discourages.

I will take newbies, I am XB1!

anyone on PS4? Wanna tackle VOG tonight 11pm pacific time :D
-
If you were on xlive I'd run you through it tonight, always have people willing to raid. Best of luck.
-
Reminds me of the wow days when most groups required you to link achievements before you get an invite but if you've never done it then you were screwed. It would be funny if the raid leader made everyone equip chatterwhite before starting the raid .
-
I have orginanized 5 full groups tomorrow with 4 new ppl in each that I'm gonna clear with and teach them the ropes. Not scared. I say bring it

I've done the raid 3 ( if you count times I haven't gotten loot 6) times. I have not tried the hard mode yet either. From my experience, the only thing that makes a raid difficult is not understanding what to do. The first time I did the raid, I did it with a group of my friends from school (which is apparently very rare). We spent an entire weekend doing the raid, and we didn't completely finish. The reason was that we did not know what to do for certain parts. BUT, when we did the raid that next weekend, we all had experience in what to do, and we got to Atheon in less than 2 hours. Once there, 2 in our party had to leave, and 2 (lower level "noobs") joined. Try had no idea what to do, but, over the next 2 hours, we taught them what to do. We finished the raid then. What I'm saying is this: There have been many occasions where I start the raid with 3 people, and we invite randoms, they join, and we use fire team chat, and complete the raid. I do not think that the majority of players will stop accepting people to play because of their level. 9 out of 10 times, it'd be easier with 6 alright-sorta-good-I-can-shoot people than with 4 I-know-everything-about-this people. There will never be a lack of people doing the raids (loot) and they will always need people to join them (there are parts where it is almost/impossible without 5 or 6 people). Don't worry, you'll get there, and you'll beat the raid.
I have not tried the hard mode yet either. From my experience, the only thing that makes a raid difficult is not understanding what to do.
Try it on hard then we'll talk. I have, it ain't about jobs anymore... it's survival. My team knows what to do and we are not a part of the elite that have beaten it. There is no reviving down teammates. No 30 second respawns. You go down, you stay down until the next checkpoint.
