You should always log out before turning off the game. There is a lag between feedback when just shutting the system off. I had similar troubles except my characters would lose levels.

I appreciate the advice, unfortunately it is not relevant to the issue. As I stated in the post the issue occurs even if I do log out of the game. Thanks though.
