You can get gold tier, silver tier, bronze tier, and event participation.

What determines which tier you get?

If the objective is not met before the time runs out, you will be awarded bronze. If the objective is nearly met but the time runs out, you will be awarded silver. If the objective is met before the time runs out you will be awarded gold. Event participant I believe is awarded for just being there and initiating the event, it is the lowest award and to get it is just by pretty much doing nothing.
