Atheon Teleport Mechanics Update Feedback

I have not complained about any changes to this game. - Loot Cave - okay, patch it (and you gave us a fun Easter Egg at that). - Gun nerfs/buffs - you guys know best, you can watch how we play and address what's needed to provide multiple alternatives with weapon selection in PVP. - Templar column - Even though I backed this as a "strategy", I only tried to help *one* group that insisted on it and my group has always had dedicated roles in that fight. We played the ground game and continue to do so, we're better and faster at it. - Atheon "baby bumpers" - Yes, please. They're not necessary when you have a good team who play well together and know roles that we have unanimously determined by preference and vote. I didn't support the bug that broke him. - Atheon's teleport behavior? - Please, Bungie, please. Most successful Raid teams have found that different members are better at different roles. This is a TEAM event. I, for one, am the dedicated Relic-holder for that fight. We've watched gameplay mechanics, we developed a system, a strategy, to break our group into two. Portal team does what needs to be done in the portals, and Gatekeeper team survives the hordes of suicidal Harpies, opens the necessary gate, and generally does the most damage to Atheon once Portal team is out, because we're busy getting ready to go back in again. [b]The Atheon teleport change will break not only our strategy, but most successful teams' strategies.[/b] The fight will be utter chaos. Not everyone plays the same role in a team - that's what makes a TEAM. If we could all perform the same roles, we'd be interchangeable. Why stay together? Our group dynamics are great and we all get along well, but the glitches in Atheon's fight were tough enough to get through without someone raging. The deaths of a single dedicated member alone can make the fight unwinnable. [b]We are using legitimate strategy there, Bungie.[/b] There is no unfair advantage, no taking advantage of unfair enemy behavior (some predictability is not a bad thing!), we just got our team 100% set this week! Not everyone can be expected to perform the same in a team. We all have strengths and weaknesses and that is part of what brings us together. [b]We fill in each other's gaps in playstyle to complete the group.[/b] Please rethink this Atheon patch. "Baby bumpers" are great. Make the community fight for their victory! But don't completely trash mechanics that aren't broken. I know six of me could not beat this Raid, nor could six of any other gamer I know. Level playing fields are great, but don't take away our individual strengths. Sorry for the long post. I have reposted this in the Feedback forum where it belongs, as I've asked others who post in the #destiny category. [b]I've always supported you guys and plan on continuing to... Don't break the Raid, please![/b]

  • Yeah its about teamwork and strategy, its why you have a fireteam with specific roles. Its why the raid doesn't have matchmaking so you're with your friends and you know your strengths and weaknesses. If you do this, than add matchmaking for the Vault of Glass.

    • If everyone should be able to do everything, why not implement matchmaking? Let's face it, Bungie lied when they said there wasn't only one way to play Destiny. It's their way or the highway.

      • As a 35 year old dad and casual gamer who plays on the weekends and when I have time..... If you make it so I can't log on, find a group of like minded players of similar skill and level, work as a team and complete a raid in a few hours then there is no reason to play this game. Making the final encounter completely random will prevent this and pretty much prevent me from playing. I am not going to sit and run strike playlists forever and you are locking casual gamers who have children and lives out of your game. See how much money you make after you do this....

      • Maybe they should stop patching things that were obviously meant to be in the game and patch the annoying thing when you come out the other side of a portal and are still in either Mars or Venus

        • I agree change the way he picks and it will ruin the gameplay mechanics on final boss. I liked the exploits but I'm glad you fixed them. Too many people have tons of raid gear. PLEASE DONT CHANGE HIS PICK METHOD.

          +1 agree 100%. It's not a bug, it was specifically programmed that way. I for one will never help a new player through the raid when this goes through

          • Bump. I see the raid as a squad activity. In a squad, everyone needs to m know their role and do it well, covering each other's back. With the random teleporting, no one knows their role. No one can get into the flow. No one has each other's backs. I don't mind being anyone of the roles, but once that role is set, let me get into the flow and do my job well. Right now, it all just goes to hell.

          • Nice post. Well Written. I completely agree with the OP. Atheon's teleporting mechanics aren't broken. Please don't fix them. I have never played an MMO where everybody in the raid was expected to be able to do everyones job. Raids assign roles to players based on their ability and play style. Don't break the raid. Baby bumpers are fantastic. Blocking the easy zone for the Templar is appropriate as well. Don't adjust the teleport mechanics to RNG. This game already has too much RNG.

          • I completely understand the changes made to the loot caves and gun balances (and this is coming from someone who prefers auto/shotty), but PLEASE leave the Atheon teleportation alone, at least in the normal version. My clan just started into the Vault of Glass, and are on the Atheon fight at the moment. Not all of us are ultra-hardcore top-tier raiders. Some people need a bit of specialization to make sense of a chaotic fight. I'm proud to say that I am the "relic guy," and I know our team that stays out of the portals are happy that they only have to focus getting the portals open while staying alive. The Vault is probably the most fun that I've had with Destiny, but I don't know if my clan members would be willing to put up with the added chaos and frustration that random teleportation would bring about. Please leave the option for specific roles available. I am having a great time playing the game, but most of that enjoyment comes from playing along with my friends and clan-mates. If they leave due to frustration, a lot of what is holding me to the game goes with them. Please keep this kind of thing in mind, as I'm sure there are other players in the same situation as I am.

          • Look man I agree. I love this game and I love doing the raid. It is a challenge even after doing it several times. My team has a strategy and now with this patch it will all go to hell. I have always been appointed captain and always use the relic. My team does support and kill all oracles and other enemies. Randomizing our teleports would destroy this raid. My team took a while to beat the raid the first time and every time we get better and better and now our strategy is -blam!-ed. Please bungie do not randomize the raid. It will -blam!- this game up.

          • I disagree with this change. It's adding another layer of artificial difficulty. I don't think anything the community says will change their mind either. But this won't break the encounter. There are only 3 roles in the fight: oracles, relic, and outside portals. As long as someone gets ported that knows how to use the relic. It'll be fine. Most people should be able to adapt.

          • Have the Atheon random porting mechanic put into the hard mode difficulty. Most teams should know what to do and how to handle each encounter. It's called hard for a reason. Leave normal alone so fresh raiders can still learn what to do and how each role is performed.

            • Just because Bungie is salty that too many people are beating the raid, they decide to make it harder. This is sooooo dumb. I also have very few complaints. This is infuriating. Don't do it!

            • Don't do the teleporting rework it will kill the raid. Like Fragmented hero said each team has members that are dedicated to their position that plays to their strengths that's what makes us a team. That's why you put the raid in is for people to work as a team don't destroy that now.

            • Everything in this game will soon be random because that is bungies lame ass way of making it "hard". Why not spawn with a random gun? Why not spawn with random amount of health? Heck make it random how often your bullets do damage. I'm sure even if such stupid changes are done we will have people defending it thinking they are pros.

            • If you feel you need to fix anything in the vault fix the pushing Atheon sure. Leave the random teleport alone this will only break the vault. I see a lot of people asking for Atheon checkpoint so they don't have to complete the entire raid to get end raid rewards. Fix this by removing any chance for rewards for anyone that hasn't completed all sections of raid. But please listen to the masses and let us work as a team, let us be organized in our attempt to save the universe.

              I disagree. It really isnt too hard to learn the other roles. Defense team: survive, open the correct portal, stay on high ground to avoid the supplicants, and clear any supplicants from near the portal. When burn phase comes, defense team focuses on the supplicants first, then Aetheon. Relic holder: kill minotaur first, if sent to grass. Use R2/Right Trigger to shield bash for more damage. Cleanse your group halfway down the first flight of steps, then at the base if the second flight, then run through the portal to get set up for burn phase while they finish the last 2 oracles. Portal team: the first 7 seconds, you both shoot the adds and help kill them. Then, when first oracle appears, one person split off to deal with the oracles while the other person continues to help with adds. Best strategy is to weaken the minotaur when the relic holder is about to slam him. Then, after the slam, start dealing with the goblins. If at desert, pop all three hobs to make them stasis, then deal with whichever one is furthest from the relic holder. The oracle person should have the first 2 oracles down by the time all adds are down, and the third one should be spawning right at this point. Note: if a Gunslinger is teleported, they can kill the adds immediately with Golden Gun. Shield bearer should have a very easy job if they have a Gunner in their team. Honestly, the toughest oart will be to get other people used to the relic.

                Are you serious? I'll probably get a lot of hate for this seeing as everyone seems to be agreeing with you. But here I go! I remember he first week the raid came out and no one knew about the [b]bug[/b] (Yes, it's a bug). We had to TRUST each other to fulfill whichever random role they where given. Took a while but we finally managed to beat Atheon. Was it chaotic? At first, but once we all knew what to do, it was cake. [b] Later on when we heard about the bug did we use it? Yes[/b], of course having a teleport team and a portal opening team/harpy slaying team made it WWAAAYYYY easier. [b]Random teleports calls for more teamwork/trust than role assignments[/b] You're telling me - as a gamer - You can't play every role at Atheon? You can't kill harpies (that spawn three at a time for Christ sakes) and sit on one of two pillars to open a portal? You can't grab the relic and double jump and pull the right trigger to smash some ads? You can't toss grenades to the center if you teleport to Venus to help with the Minotaur before focusing on the oracles that spawn 5 seconds later? I can and have played all these roles easily, I don't see why you can't either. Shameful really. What's so difficult people? What am I not seeing? Why are you whining about this so much? Too hard for you? You've only opened the portals before? Never touched the relic? [b]Is there a role I play better? Yes[/b], but I still can play any roll given to me. Raids are meant to be [b]hard[/b], the VoG as it stands now feels cheap. I'm happy about the baby bumpers to Atheon and I hope they [b]add bumpers to the Templar[/b] so he can't be pushed off either. Most of us should have no problem with the normal raid. Hopefully the hard mode raid will be challenging now. #Destiny

                • Follow through with this ridiculous Atheon teleport "fix" and I'll quit. Period. Not that I matter as one gamer, but I sure as hell imagine I represent at least a decent chunk of other gamers. Whatever Bungie, your game.
