"It's not really PVE/PVP with vanguard being the only PVE group. Factions grow reputation from both vanguard and crucible rep. This is nice because if you play a mix of both it won't be splitting your rep between 2 groups. On the other hand you do purchase from factions with crucible marks, so you'll either have to fight, or with resource trading you can get marks without ever going in the crucible. " My way of getting some of the rep/marks is I get as many bounties as I can for a patrol. The best are like "do 6 patrol missions on ___", 100 precision shots, kill 20 without taking damage, knife 30. Collect 200 tears from ___. Those types of bounties. Then I go to the specified location, pick up patrol missions of either the pyramid shaped missions (kill x baddy for item drop) or the circle with 4 triangles (kill x baddies). I look up a resource farming area/route and circle it checking caves and such for the resources. When I have 50 I trade them in with the crucible quarter master for crucible marks. I'd also recommend doing some pvp because even though it can be frustrating, it preemptively gets you ready for when you get exotic bounties.

Handing in materials for crucible marks is not an option for me. I need all of them to upgrade my weapons/armor. I've done 1 exotic bounty that required pvp and abandoned 3 other ones after that simply because of their pvp requirement. Currently doing the heavy machine gun exotic bounty that doesn't require pvp.
