Right now you can personally breakdown a weapon for both glimmer and parts. If you'd had to visit the Gunsmith to get either of these done then he'd have had a continued relevance in the game beyond the odd exotic bounty and ammo. Otherwise weapon blueprints would be a good new drop with him assembling them from the required components? Either way I like his grumbling.
