What if while you were playing Destiny you heard an urgent message coming from the tower? Maybe it would be from your Vanguard Mentor, maybe even from our Beloved Cryptarch. This message might come through your headset like a dying whisper, or a panicked call to arms popping up like you've accepted a patrol mission. This message would be very clear, enemies approaching, defenses failing, we need you now, we need you all now. I'm talking about the ultimate community event, team up now, or understand that all could be lost. Finish your pvp game, speed to the end of your pve mission, jump to orbit, and head home. The Fallen are breaking through, The Vex are massing their attack, The Cabal are making their final stand. The Tower will fall. Unless through their strength together, the Guardians stand to protect what is theirs. Snipers to the balcony, Titans to the front, it's going to be a wild ride. It will take 24 hours to get the Tower's defenses back online, you'll respawn in the special events area where the Tower's staff will be waiting, eager to provide their services if if means saving the last beacon of light from waves of enemies stronger than any one could defeat alone. OK, I have read all of the comments posted and taken all of the points into consideration and i have come up with this. The tower may not be ideal for this event due to the traveler protecting the last city with its power. The event could be on the edge of the city, at the wall where the travelers power is weaker, The guardians have built four outposts at four different locations. Outpost 1 is the last line of defense from the fallen, Outpost 2 the hive and so on, witch makes great for weekly events as it will take a month before you defend the same outpost from the same enemy. The minimum lvl for the event i think should vary from week to week, eg week one lvl 22, week two lvl 24, three 26 and four 28 and back round again, the rewards that you get from these events will depend on a few things like, the lvl of the event you are on, the amount of kills, deaths, revives of other players and how long you last etc. It would be a wave after wave event with a max of sixteen players on each server, starting with smaller numbers of weaker enemy's and working up through the waves to a high number of stronger enemy's and ending in a big multiple boss battle, drop ships coming in from every where that can be taken down. on the out post there could be a few anti aircraft turrets you can use to do this while on the ground dregs on pikes are open to head shots so that you can steel the pike and turn it on the enemy. you can not re-spawn by your self, another player will have to save you and when all the players are dead and the event for you is over. (city guardian) points and ranks now come into affect with all new gear and weapons etc, to be bought from the new vender ( the city guardians ) or (city defender) vender, with gear that goes higher then legendary, even (exotic, star one) that maxed out with all your other legendary gear could allow you to reach lvl 31, you can only get this from the (city guardian vender) /(city defender), you will have to be a high rank and have a lot of city guardian bounty's under your belt to get the gear, this would show that you have defended the city for a long time and it would mean you will get things that not many will.
we as the players should come up with the gear and weapons so post your ideas down below.
so to sum up, new things this event will give
1, new city vender(the city defender)
2, city defender bounties
3, city defender gear and weapons
4, weakly events
5, an extra rank
6, ground to air combat
7,wave combat

I wonder if those robots in the tower that have been sweeping the floors for a month would notice an alien incursion or if they would just keep sweeping

The traveler doesn't seem to be able to do much in the way of defending anything actually. "The Titans Built the walls, they held the line at Twilights Gap". I think It's more of a symbolic protection than any real physical defense.

I'd like there to be missions where there is a genuine sense of jeopardy and a "real" risk of characters being lost or something irreversible happening to the environment we play in. This is far more challenging to realise from a technology and code perspective than what we have currently but entirely possible.

I wouldn't mind, but don't make it like a hurry up type event. I think it would me much wiser as a monthly mission. Postmaster message every month delivers a message, you grab it & take it to the bounty tracker, than you can accept it or deny it. 1 to 12 players, as strikes apparently have solo, even the raid (clueless as to why) but yea, I've been wanting a (save the tower mission) for quite a awhile now. There are massive guns on the tower. But this way you don't players rushing to quit a strike, or pvp, or etc. I know you would like 32+ players but no game has done a 32+ fire team that I know of yet. Other than that, I give half support.

Now here is an idea for a good monthly event. I would be more then happy to join my fellow guardians in defending the tower. Having a wall of titans all cast our ward of dawn stopping the wave of enemies as warlocks cast void breaker from above.

This idea is amazing, but at the same time they would have to make it a weekend specific in order to get the mass amounts of players required to defend the tower then there's the whole server issue would they even be able to handle so etching like that? I personally don't know but would love to see this happen something like a combo between a raid and big team battle and horde mode would be AMAZING!!! Ps. I'd still watch and laugh as the cryptarch got one shot killed by a hobgoblin then I'd run over and sit on his dead body
