Story sounds a bit like the Oblivion-Movie. And plotchangers in games were made before - play Deus Ex (the original one) that was da bomb!

I am willing to bet that the oblivion movie is part of the reason the story got scrapped. They were already conflicted about the story but then the movie comes out and has way too many similarities.
