Gunsmith what's the point???? (UPDATED)
Once you get to say level 15 the gunsmith becomes well redundant. He never has anything of use to sell other than ammo refills.
Why bungie could you not have given him a random loot stream which involved exotics and legendary. I hate it when games make characters that have a 2 min role but never leave the game.
Just a thought give him a random loot stream and mix up the currency used, so many use them.
What does everyone else think?

I realize I should have said Gaurdian outfitter as well, I have more emblems that I care for but shaders are in short supply. I guess I didnt mention her because I forgot she even existed. Don't get me wrong I don't want things handed to me I like the idea of earning things but why do people think that going out and collecting glimmer or other bits such as strange coins to purchase an exotic is not earning it, if you ask me it's far more earned than all the little turds out farming loot caves for engrams. I am not asking for there to be an exotic up for grabs every day just make him and her have some more value to the end gamers.

Can we please stop posting the obvious now, we all know he sells ammo and has a small role in a bounty these two very small points do not make his role in the game anymore relevant. I would love to to see more interaction with all the NPC's, but I think the GUNSMITH should be one of the more relevant NPC's of a SHOOTER. Having him build guns or change perks simply would not work in this iteration of the game. Why? well that ability would render exotics redundant and pointless cause we could all just make one no need to find/earn/buy them.
I think the future games will have far more customization, but the best course of action for these NPC's I think would be to just give them random loot streams, also removal of glimmer cap. Setting exotic at say .9% chance of drop and legendary at say 2% rares 5% GIve other stuff to sell as well like energy for coins, weapon parts. And make the purchase of exotics require x amount of weapon parts and x amount of strange coin, this would make acquiring them a bit more tricky as one might not have the required parts at the time of the exotic drop. Also involve the gun smith in some new side mission, something this game is seriously missing side missions that is.

Sometimes I like to splurge and buy a couple level 18 items just because I can. Also I feel the guardian outfitter is just some old deranged woman that doesn't even know what her own real purpose is. Just glad some nice young guardians visit her every now and then to see if she's still alive.

4 RepliesI think the gunsmith should be able to upgrade your guns to your current level for glimmer and increase the rarity of it for motes of light (all the way up to legendary). You could even add your own choice of upgrade slots for more money (in game, that is). I mean come on. Do you remember that first cool gun you got? All the fun you had with it? The kills you racked up? Do you remember when you got an upgrade? All the tears you shed when you dismantled it? How you cried yourself to sleep that night? This would fix all that. Bungie said they wanted each item to have a story. This would make for a much tale than "I got lucky in crucible and out popped this bad boy".

7 RepliesLet him be an actual gunsmith, instead of a dealer. Let's say that I want a pulse rifle that can do void damage(I realize these may exist already). But, then you have the ability to build your own skill tree for that gun. Then "he" will calculate what you need to do to level it up. This will give players, that truly have skill and dedication, to have their one and only gun that packs that personal punch.

He's a gunsmith, right? He shoulda been used as the way to upgrade weapons rather than the pause menu JUST to give him a purpose in life.

I was able to buy 10 rare fusion rifles if of him. So when I get that as an exotic bounty, done!

A useless counterpart to exotic bounties and ammo are all hes useful for, like all merchants in this damn game. I cant wait for Dragon Age Inquisition dammit.

I would not say he's completely useless. When I was in my early 20's and I started to lose interest in the 'Stranger's Pulse Rifle' I managed to buy a Shingen-E off of him and to this date that is my best primary weapon so I'll always be grateful to him for that. Having said that, it's been a week or two since then, I visit him everyday and I am constantly disappointed in his wares. Once you start getting Rare ( blue ) and Legendary ( purple ) weapons he does kind of outlive his usefulness. I wonder what's Bungie's 10 year plan for him is because most of us have outgrown him after 2 weeks of gameplay.

I think he should be selling weapon upgrade packs. I mean ones that would upgrade one or two slots on the weapon and not like the timer ones Xur has. They should also cost Mote Of Light. The same price for an engram like 25 mote of light. As Im sure the only thing worth spending mote of light on is an exotic engram.

I think the gunsmith will get upgraded in the future. I think some of the vendors are victims of the deadline to get the game out

The ammo packs for one and rare fusion rifles on occasion for the exotic bounty. And i guess for newbies hes ight.
