Gunsmith what's the point???? (UPDATED)
Once you get to say level 15 the gunsmith becomes well redundant. He never has anything of use to sell other than ammo refills.
Why bungie could you not have given him a random loot stream which involved exotics and legendary. I hate it when games make characters that have a 2 min role but never leave the game.
Just a thought give him a random loot stream and mix up the currency used, so many use them.
What does everyone else think?

I realize I should have said Gaurdian outfitter as well, I have more emblems that I care for but shaders are in short supply. I guess I didnt mention her because I forgot she even existed. Don't get me wrong I don't want things handed to me I like the idea of earning things but why do people think that going out and collecting glimmer or other bits such as strange coins to purchase an exotic is not earning it, if you ask me it's far more earned than all the little turds out farming loot caves for engrams. I am not asking for there to be an exotic up for grabs every day just make him and her have some more value to the end gamers.

Can we please stop posting the obvious now, we all know he sells ammo and has a small role in a bounty these two very small points do not make his role in the game anymore relevant. I would love to to see more interaction with all the NPC's, but I think the GUNSMITH should be one of the more relevant NPC's of a SHOOTER. Having him build guns or change perks simply would not work in this iteration of the game. Why? well that ability would render exotics redundant and pointless cause we could all just make one no need to find/earn/buy them.
I think the future games will have far more customization, but the best course of action for these NPC's I think would be to just give them random loot streams, also removal of glimmer cap. Setting exotic at say .9% chance of drop and legendary at say 2% rares 5% GIve other stuff to sell as well like energy for coins, weapon parts. And make the purchase of exotics require x amount of weapon parts and x amount of strange coin, this would make acquiring them a bit more tricky as one might not have the required parts at the time of the exotic drop. Also involve the gun smith in some new side mission, something this game is seriously missing side missions that is.

3 RepliesThe gunsmith is for investment. For example, I have 25k and can't even turn in my cryptarch "pass me your random alien shit, collect $200" so why not visit the old gunsmith to invest in some random guns to aid my weapon parts stash and free up the good old wallet

Lol. It says on details about weapon parts that they can be bought from the Gunsmith. If Bungie meant buying tons of uncommon weapons, Im gonna pissed off to no end. Either way. Fix your stuff Bungie. Even the weapon parts info is a lie, jeez.

1 ReplyYou should be able to buy blue prints for a legendary weapon and have to dismantel like 10 blues of the same gun type in order to make the gun like the pocket infinity bounty.

I get your point but I loot at it like this: I dont know a single MMO (yes i say MMO and i do not mean the "massive" part,i mean the grind for loot part) where npc weapons are good in endgame? I think the npc is kinda useless (only for ammo packs) but it would be stupid to buy better weapons than those you can find. The idea with some weapon parts or special stuffnto craft you own weapons, find or buy upgrades like "increased reload speed while mag is empty" would be awesome. Some system to totally customize your weapon. [b]I want to add the scopes I like on weapons that I like. [/b]

3 RepliesThe gunsmith should be able to create guns. Craft them using parts, materials, and glimmer. He should be able to adjust base stats for a weapon. Take a low level weapon that has great numbers and up its damage. Add passive traits and elemental damage. He's a wasted opportunity, as are most of the npc/vendors.

This made me think... maybe go to him with your mats and gun to upgrade it (surely that is what a gunsmith would do) and maybe he could sell mats for when you need just one more but can not farm it.

2 RepliesRight now you can personally breakdown a weapon for both glimmer and parts. If you'd had to visit the Gunsmith to get either of these done then he'd have had a continued relevance in the game beyond the odd exotic bounty and ammo. Otherwise weapon blueprints would be a good new drop with him assembling them from the required components? Either way I like his grumbling.

I agree that the NPC's should have a better interaction with the guardians, The gun smith could sell more rare items the higher level you are along with the outfitter simply because once you reach a certain level he is just useless except for a minor role in something that someone might never get. The cryptarch could start having better engrams for sale once you get into the higher ranks with him, a friend of mine has the cryptarc at rank 30 something and still only gets common and uncommon engrams from him. You would think that the ranks with him would men something but it really does not help at all. The factions could have more stuff for sale at higher ranks. like a faction specific exotic weapon and or armor piece, it could start at rank 5 before you could get that stuff, mainly because it is a pain in the ass to get them up past rank 3 and there is no need to get them past rank 3 except for the packages you get from them but you can the same packages from all the factions so why not just do it with vanguard or crucible.
