Use the legendaries. I also got two in one mission and I thought it was patched. I was successful in obtaining one legendary item that was worth 2 shards. My friends and I did the tiger strike missions and he got an exotic sniper. I think the rewards have been tweaked. Or maybe it's dumb luck. Who knows until it's official.
