Why would you ever want to play a game, or enjoy one more over, that does not have a story to tell, interesting characters that you like, and a purpose.
Shooters are pretty lame for the most part without a decent plotline/ reason for the constant gunfire. The more character a game has the more you'd be willing to replay it.
I mean Tales of Symphonia is 11 years old, has 80+ hours of core content and a fantastic storyline and some awesome characters I always love to play through. I'd rate is as better in terms of mechanics, plot, hell art design than most other games developed in the last 10 years.

And you think this what? Makes you opinion more valuable because you chose to apply yourself to a game mode of the brain dead? Well done sir....well done..... I applaud the intense struggle you must have gone through to churn out such a useless mass of words held together with some sticky white stuff and bravado....... Pointless.

I play a lot of games that have no story and enjoy them thoroughly because I enjoy the gameplay in them. Destiny Fifa Football manager civilization There are just a few examples of games with little to know story that I love. You could potentially include the souls games too since on the surface there is no real story and you have to do a lot of digging and theorizing to get it.

Oh, but the Civilization series has a great story...granted, most of it is in my head to follow the gameplay.
