[b]War with the Cabal[/b] We know the Cabal are at war with the Vex. But other than what I mentioned earlier with the potentially disastrous relations between hiveminds and individually-based races, we can only speculate. The Cabal are an empire, and are their units are given Roman legion designations. In its earlier history, Rome fought ongoing wars with Carthage, another Mediterranean civilization. The Cabal and Vex could have a similar rivalry. The Vex could have come to our solar system to hunt down the Vex, or the Vex could have come here to stop the Cabal from gaining a beachhead. The Vex control Venus, after all, and Venus is a humid planet on which the Cabal could easily survive without environmental protection. [url=http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/12/16/the-enemies-of-destiny.aspx?PostPageIndex=1]The Cabal come from that kind of climate[/url], and so perhaps the Vex knew this and set up camp on Venus to prevent the Cabal from getting a comfortable foothold in our solar system. --------------------------------- [b]The Vex and the Exo[/b] A [url=http://www.destinypedia.com/Grimoire/Guardian#Exo]Grimoire Card[/url] speaks of a war for which humans constructed the Exo—could this forgotten conflict have been our first contact with the Vex? Countering the tireless efficiency of hiveminded machines with organic soldiers would prove to be a daunting task, so the answer might be to create your own machines to fight back with. The Exo were constructed with the likeness of humans. They have personalities, emotions, and singular consciousness instead of hive mentality, yet match the tirelessness of the Vex. We know from character dialogue that Exos may not sleep at all. This would be the perfect countermeasure to an unrelenting machine race, making your own machines to be just like you, but with all the strengths of your enemies. Exo could also live indefinitely and pass on knowledge to new generations much better than their organic counterparts. That said, there is the possibility still exists that the Vex were created by another civilization for a similar purpose, but without individuality and no conscience besides self-preservation, and turned on their masters. The Vex could also be a transcended, self-evolved race (since they do have some biological components) who transferred themselves into robotic forms and accepted a hivemind in order to achieve utopia. They may have even evolved on their own, a strange event of life evolving without protein chains or DNA (very far-fetched, I know). They may even be sentient microorganisms with robotic shells. We may never know. -------------------------------------------- [b]Connections with Lovecraftian horror[/b] [url=http://www.gameinformer.com/games/destiny/b/playstation4/archive/2014/04/04/a-player-39-s-journey.aspx?PostPageIndex=4]The Vex are said to have the motives of a Lovecraftian monster.[/url] Lovecraftian Horror is focused on the realization of one’s insignificance in the larger picture--the protagonist’s terrifying epiphany that they are nothing in the face of vast cosmic forces and malevolent celestial beings at work. The protagonists may deal a Lovecraftian Monster a great blow or setback, but are never able to fully defeat it. When trying to comprehend the matter, the protagonist either goes crazy, commits suicide, or gives up and becomes a servant of the Monster. The Vex are just like that according to my speculation. They are an enigma—their true intentions remain unknown, and we can only wonder what they’re up to, but they are hostile and deadly. If my theory has any grain of truth to it, the Vex are not a threat to be taken lightly. Their presence across time and space along with the sheer size of their forces would make them almost unstoppable. Defeating them in our solar system may only prove to be a momentary setback for the Vex—for they will know we exist and come back one day. It’s a very sobering and scary possibility indeed. -------------------------------------------- [b]Endless war with the Vex—The FWC connection[/b] I think the Vex are the reason why the FWC sees war as inevitable, and we must prepare for it no matter what. They and seem crazy because they actually understand the full implications of the threat the Vex pose. The FWC may know more about the Vex than anyone else, and keep it a secret due to the alarming nature of the Vex’s proliferation across the multiverse.
