Not sure if that was already posted, from Reddit:
I can confirm that there were sudden and abrupt changes in the development of Destiny less than a year ago. There was tension between higher ups the entire time we were developing the title due to a lack of cohesion about the vision for the game. One side wanted this huge space epic, like an MMO Mass Effect and the other side was not convinced that would sell and wanted to pare things back to more "easily accessible" standards. They were afraid too much story elements and cut scenes would drive players off. Then Joe left and everything just fell apart. By the time we were 7 months out to release, word came down that we were making massive revisions to the game's story. Huge portions of dialogue were excised and I think several recordings were redone to support the new narrative. Entire areas that would have been in the final game were removed, but some of the context wasn't, which explains weird reactions from NPCs and strange, unexplained motivations. We had a guy come in to write the grimoire cards who was given access to the original script with notations on what was cut and what needed to be revised in order to make this zombie of a game seem plausible. All of the Last City factions had their storylines and dialogue cut, the Guardian's initial introduction to the Tower and the Last City was cut, and ALL the origins were homogenized down to the one originally used for Exo characters. Most of what was cut was planned to be re-polished into DLC, but it's all there on the disc. Not all of it is live on the servers, but it's all there on the disc. Some last minute art assets needed to be remade, which is what you'll be downloading. It's an embarrassing disaster and not the game I thought would be published.
Not sure if legit but it would explain a lot. Link

  • Oh the narrative was embarrassing even for a sub-par writer.

  • It's obvious there were changes made that sacrificed storyline.

  • Started a new topic: Now this makes it all make sense...

  •
Not sure if legit
Pretty sure it's not. Actually, more than pretty sure. This person needs to pay more attention at Team Meetings. They can stop by my desk if they'd like to be straightened out, assuming they can get past Jerome.

  • Correct me if I am wrong but this: "pare things back to more "easily accessible" standards." Is what we have got... It is appallingly "easily accessible"

  • There is something I would like to know: This is your game right? And when I mean yours, I mean you and everyone who worked so hard to make this game incredible. So why would you tear it to pieces? It took 10 years right? And an outragous amount of hardwork and dedication right? All I want to know is why and what caused this to happen. Right now I feel like I bought a lifeless husk of what Destiny was going to be. I really admired you guys. Everything that was shown and told gave me the insperation to want to someday surpass Destiny with my own game. But right now it dosent look like there is a point in doing that. As for right now, this post seems to be the only source for answers, I'm not calling you a liar, and whatever contract you guys have may be binding enough to keep you from sheding light on the situation. Or you may simply feel that we don't deserve to know, which would be true on some points, we didnt make Destiny ( I think it would have been awsome to help but I'm way too green anyways). I can't be sure of the reason, but if there is anything you could tell us, would you? Please??

  • took 4 years then they -blam!- it over and over again for another year. So 5 years. The 10 years comes from the Cash-tivision deal and them wanting destiny to be released again and again every 2 years.

  • I bought the Destiny® Expansion Pass for the additional PvP maps. I have no interest in the "story" and I have avoided playing it altogether advancing to Level 20 by collecting bounties within free roam and this 'normalized' Crucible. I won't be playing in the unbalanced Iron Banner tournament, but wouldn't mind a couple more maps as good as Shores of Time and Twilight Gap. I really couldn't care less if some assets from this DLC are already on the disc. My expectations of the product quality were set by my experience of the First Look Alpha and no subsequent evaluation did anything to change my first impression. I think people are expecting too much from what is merely an above average 6 / 10 video game - and, to put that in perspective Halo: Reach only gets a competent 7 / 10 rating from me because it has a similarly over complicated multiplayer, but is redeemed by a dramatic campaign. Yes, it's expensive, but then the most terrifying thing about this upcoming Alien: Isolation game is that it costs a wallet-clenching £70.
In the PlayStation Store no one can hear you scream
•
This person needs to pay more attention at Team Meetings.
Yeah! Let's all trust the guy who only shows up on the forums to make the game look good. Please, you're just a walking Destiny advertisement.

Sounds like someone needs to read their nda. Although I am very critical of the game and am all for transparent devs, all this person did was create more anger and frustration, all the while hiding behind the veil of anonymity. If you really want to substantiate your claims and are upset about the direction the company is moving then stand up, be a man or woman, and take ownership of what you say and write.

It is one of those things that the you can feel when you play the story. They story just felt so thrown together for a game that has been in development for so long that there was a feeling that something had changed. I still enjoy this game, don't get me wrong, but I feel as though it is a empty shell of what was orginally built and that it was gutted, for what ever reason. I will continue to play, for now, but I just don't see myself hanging on as much for the DLC. The content just isn't there. I just hope that what they have announced, thus far, for the DLC brings new life to the end game. *edit* lots of information coming out, either true or not. Just gunna step back for a few days until more, hopefully, true information pans out. *edit* Off to grind my hunter some more.
