Ok. Just going to say it and in caps because it is the only fact about this whole "situation" people are going on and on about that actually matters. Ready? BUNGIE IS ABLE TO DO WHAT THE -blam!- EVER THEY WANT WITH THE CONTENT THEY CREATE. That is all there is to it. It doesn't matter when it was created. It doesn't matter what they decide to sell as DLC later, what they decide to give away as free DLC, or what they decide never to include. That is their decision, and their right as the people who created and developed it. And did you peaple REALLY believe that a game Bungie purposely and deliberately informed us to be a game experience that they intended to build and add on to for ten whole years would NOT have paid DLC, which would include story, over that time? I don't know what happened that people, in particular people in the gaming community, began to believe that they have a right to determine what a developer, a business, can or cannot do with the product they make; or how they are allowed to sell it. When they made the content is absolutely irrelevant. The only thing YOU, the consumer, actually have a right to is whether or not you buy it. If you don't like what they are doing with what they created, don't buy it. But for Pete's sake, stop talking like you have a right to tell Bungie or Activision what they should or should not do with their business and their software. Do you get mad if buy a car but don't get every accessory ever made for it for free? Have you never bought a piece of software that charged extra for additional content? Does it upset you to buy cereal and not get milk for free? And here is a newsflash: things change during the development of a game. Things get added, things get cut for MANY reasons. This happens with EVERY game. EVERY GAME EVER MADE. And Bungie is certainly not the only developer to create content to be sold at a later date as DLC coinciding with the development of the main game. It's friggin' standard practice and there is NOTHING wrong with it. Once more: THEY, BUNGIE, OWN WHAT THEY DEVELOPE. And they have a right to sell it or include it in the way they see fit. You are not ENTITLED to anything. Because, once again, that is what all this is about. People believing they are entitled to what they are not to the point of making a game developer out to be some "corporate villian" for deciding how best to create and sell their own product.

  • Consumers have rights just like anyone else. When you sell someone a sports car and neglect to mention that it had it's motor taken out prior to their purchase when the customer is expecting to be able to drive it off the lot due to your assurances and promises is outright criminal. Then you have the gall to tell them... "but wait we can install and repair this debacle for half again what you paid for the car! The cajones on these goobers... What's even more hilarious is that in screwing the pooch this friggin badly Bungie and Activision opened themselves up to a slew of outside corporate espionage from rabble rousing to infrastructure attack. Deuces guys.

  • No one's saying they can't do this. They very clearly are doing it. I think what you're responding to is naive Bungie fans that feel as if they have been betrayed. I don't care that Bungie puts a little heart next to their logo and "thanks us." Bungie is a company like any other, they worry about the bottom line. Now that's not to say that some of the people at Bungie don't have a passion for what they do and don't enjoy getting positive feedback from consumers. But the company as a whole is in existence to make money.

I know Bungie "Owns what they develop". I knew that "Bungie would have paid DLC". I know that things get cut in the development cycle. How do all those random facts equate to "people believe they are entitled". Since when was the expression of opinion a declaration of entitlement? Did you even read the post?!? Its mainly SPECULATION about how the story was drastically changed pre-launch and that he prefers the original plot. A separate speculative claim, and I repeat speculative, indicates that maybe a lot of the DLC was originally going to be in the original launch. Given that a lot of people thought the standalone game was short and repetitive and there were a lot of holes in the story, they are upset to learn that possibly the DLC was going to be included and could have made for a better standalone launch experience. I'm going to buy the DLC. I enjoy the game. If the speculation is even true, I think that Bungie shouldn't have changed the story and given us more content at launch. I still would have bought a smaller post launch DLC and been happier with my first destiny experience. Tell me again how this opinion is one of entitlement? Tell me again how I am making Bungie out to be a corporate villian?

  • From an outside perspective reading all of this hoopla, as a relatively new 40 something gamer, I feel many of you are spoiling what the game actually is. And what that is to me is pure fun, plain and simple. Some of you are on the right track, that we live in a capitalistic society driven by profit, and Bungie/ Activision, can do whatever they damn well please. Take it or leave it is my opinion. The game has done extremely well for the most part, and egos, huge egos come into play when a huge project is underway. People will unexpectedly quit or get fired, and LIFE happens! So as I've said before to many complainers and whiners, it is only in my opinion, a small percentage compared to the masses, that will want to wager that the game will not live on and be the success it already is. For me, I am willing to spend money for more content. I'll say this again. I. Am. Wiling to spend. More money. For more content! Lol... Thanks Bungie and for the rest. Keep complaining. It's quite entertaining.

  • so my opinion that the original story was better(if speculation is true) and DLC should not be cut content means I don't understand capitalism and am just another 'entitled' kid from generation Y you've got to be trolling me

  • Amen! 10000% correct. My God, ppl on here are freakin' whiny babies! Bungie ACTUALLY gives a crap about keeping communication open unlike 98% of the gaming companies out there, they produce an new IP (something NO ONE will invest the money into, which is why we are in game sequel hell), commit to 10 years, and STILL ppl just bitch and whine and complain like spoiled little idiots. If the ten year plan could be mapped out into 100 steps, we are at step 1.5 and already ppl are condemning Bungie for decisions they are not informed about. Frankly, if you don't like what you got, don't play it. Just shut up already, you aren't helping anything. And keep your freedom of speech ramblings to yourself. You're wrong. Period.

  • Which is why we have Bungie employees anonymously divulging secrets about Destiny's development on reddit? The game has been butchered beyond recognition over the last year. It's not the game the people who originally envisaged Destiny wanted. Ever wonder why Joseph Staten left? Isn't it strange that Marty left as well?

  • No, we have anonymous posters making the claim to be Bungie employees or have worked there during the time Destiny was being made, as far as I can tell none of them have actually offered any proof whatsoever to support their claims of working for Bungie. And if you're talking about that poster that called themselves 404Architect, they actively refused to offer up any kind of proof to support their claims, which to me indicates the person was a troll all along and wouldn't be someone you could trust further than you could throw them. There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that the game has gone through any more change is the usual standard fair for a game going through development let alone to support the exaggeration that it's been "butchered". And no, I don't wonder why Staten left because people do that all of the time, they come and go, especially after they've been somewhere a long time, sometimes it's just time to retire or to go take a different job somewhere else. I don't find Marty getting fired all that strange either, I'd be curious to know more about the whole situation, sure, but ultimately it doesn't really matter that much to me and I don't find it at all strange because shit just happens, that's one of the facts of life.

  • Youre not an employee. All your info is second hand, or garnered from the media. You simply have zero rights in this matter, but you'll go down fighting, swinging at invisible conspiricies.... What a waste of time.

  • Yes, of course a developer can do what they want with the game. But that doesn't mean we have to support it. I'm not mad because there is content on the disc that is locked. I'm mad because the unlocked content is short, disjointed, and quickly repetitive. If you want to defend a game with less substance than major titles from a decade ago, then have it. But I think we should criticize a tactic that is a worse deal for the gamer and if successful will be industry wife soon. I've loved Bungie for a whole and you can tell from the quality of the mechanics they are just as talented as always, but this game is a negative unless we prove the model is too far off (i.e. don't buy the DLC at it's record setting price).

  • The content they decided to release changed over time. but they advertised it the same way. They advertised this huge game world with endless things to do when in reality there are people who finished EVERY INCH of the gams content in less than 2 weeks. You cant advertise something and then not deliver based on those expectations you created.

  • Actually, you can. It's called "puffing". It's a legal term pertaining to advertising. And you fell for it, even though it's everywhere. THAT'S what you're mad about.

Puffing may be everywhere--McDonald's burgers never look as good as they are advertised. But at least they still give you a burger. Destiny promised a burger deluxe and have us the buns and lettuce but now we have to pay separate for the meat, tomatoes, cheese and toppings. There's puffing your product up, stretching the truth, I understand that, but then there's just lying. Which is what we are mad about.

  • And your rage makes you unobjective. You can call it lying, but Im willing to bet my last baseball card you would lose that argument HARD in a court of law. Just settle down and have a little faith. The burger is there, all juicy and waiting for you. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm..... Doesn't it feel good just thinkin' 'bout it? It just may take longer to cook than you want.

  • I hear ya. This is a new genre, the fpsmmo, and Im glad Bungie is doing it. We're about 28 days into a 3,650 day adventure, so I have faith the guys that created so much fun with the Halo games, the masters of the genre, are at the helm. #justafan #dontbesobutthurt
