It seems I'm having a very different experience with the game than most...

I'm a software developer in my 30s. I work all day, come home, hit the gym or go for a bike ride, make dinner, and take care of the dog. After dinner, I boot up the PS4, create a party with 4 to 6 of my friends... work friends, childhood friends, friends I've just met... We hop in a PS4 party, then we all load up the game. We battle through all of the game's missions together. We take on the strikes. We take on the queens wrath missions. We're working on building up our light levels. We do patrols and bounties, and we all enter the Crucible together. I am having an absolute blast playing Destiny with my friends. Maybe the difference is that I have a dedicated set of friends whom I can play the game with that make it so much fun, but reading through this board is very interesting to me. It seems that many of the people writing here are having a very different experience than I am having. Is it simply because I'm playing with my friends that I find what the developers at Bungie have given us so entertaining?

  • It's because you don't feel the need to trash anything good. God forbid a game being good.

I'm enjoying it.. Doing all of my daily, weekly, vanguards, strikes.... not as much MP yet but still putting in a lot of time getting trophy’s unlocked.

  • Yes yes, that's nice and all; but I think you're sweetening this up just a bit too much. I too, play with friends on Destiny, and we too, have fun on Raids, Strikes, Crucible, ETC... However, that doesn't defaulty make the game 'good' because it has a few enjoyable parts in it. It has balancing problems in PvP, bosses are a painful grind, and the raid is a glorified version of Strikes, with Megatron as the final boss. I know you said you're having a different experience on your own, and that's respectable in the idea of individual/small group opinion; but when it comes to the quality of the game itself, it's sub-par. Any game can be fun with friends, but that doesn't make it good.

    • I feel that the majority of us enjoy the game. We just don't post our opinions like the ignorant assholes that post all day long busting bungie's chops for normal gaming habits. Do we agree with having to pay for dlc no, but this is the world we live in today where if you wanna play you gotta pay

      • Do you have a wife or girlfriend who likes playing video games? I have. Lack of local coop alone makes this game basically useless for anyone who has household members interested in gaming.

        • Man, I've been having a lot of fun on this game. I do dislike the connection problems I'm having and even the lack of public voice chat. However, as a game, Destiny is almost exactly what I expected it to be; an FPS with MMO elements. I wasn't expecting an awesome story that rivals games like The Last of Us or Beyond: Two Souls, I wasn't expecting a world that rivals Skyrim in size (even though Destiny's explorable areas are actually quite vast, and I often get lost because I do not recognize a lot of the places I end up in), and I wasn't expecting everything to make sense right off the bat. Anybody who knows anything about Activision knows that they love pushing DLC on us. I do like Bungie's approach, though. They made the events not require insane updates that rival Battlefield's in size (I hate downloading Battlefield's updates, they're ridiculously large). Everything just flows so seamlessly. I appreciate that. I think people expected something that wasn't actually advertised. Big world? Check. A lot of endgame activities? Check. MMO-like elements (classes, leveling, grinding, farming, grinding, loot, grinding)? Check. Beautiful world with a lot of backstory? Check. I think the marjority of people misinterpreted Bungie's idea at the reveal. However, it should have been very clear when the beta came around. The beta was grind-heavy and repetitive too. I'm not sure why they expected a huge change. The game is exactly what it was advertised to be. People also misinterpreted the "playable" areas assertion. All they meant was that Destiny doesn't have "backdrops." Everything you see is able to be touched and explored if Bungie removes invisible walls, which they probably won't. However, even if those parts of the world were available to us, people would just find something else to complain about. This game was just subject to far too much hype. No game in the history of mankind could ever live up to that kind of hype. Hell, ESO has this same problem. Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, and Titanfall all have the exact same problem. Gamers hype the crap out of games, and then they cry when the game isn't what the created in their minds.

          • @ZGRDaniel The game is a very different with a party, the social experience does drown out the monotony of the content. I have played both, can't stand to solo now, its friends or I'm not on.

          • Agreed 100% I was very disappointed in the story, and I would say I'm mildly disappointed overall. That may be due in part to my lofty expectations. That said, the practical reality is that I play every night and can't wait to get home from work and play some more. Can code be laced with heroin?

          • That's a great perspective. I've been very critical of the game due to the way it's been marketed and under delivered. You enjoy the game for the same reason I enjoy every weak ass installment of madden, it's a social experience and way to unwind. I don't have friends that play destiny so I'm not having a great time. Gameplay is great however, they got that part right.

nope. it's an awesome game if you play with friends. but if you concentrate too hard on the story itself...not so much fun...

          • a group of friends could make just about anything entertaining. If people are together with nothing else to do, they can entertain themselves for hours at a time no problem.

          • You've already listed your difference Friends Before anyone thinks this is a joke, think Would you really be playing with a guy who is constantly complaining about the very game he is playing, i wouldn't. In summary I doubt 90% of the people on this forum who complain about "bordom" have real friends That's just my two cents- Food lion

            • Sigh, no it's not that. I play with my brother in law and my wife...yet to us something felt off. We are big on story games and searching on the lore of Destiny before its release had us giddily excited. Only to play the game and be utterly disappointed that not only is the story so minimal, it is hardly existent in Destiny. Later to find out the rumors that make a whole lot of sense just to be even more disappointed. I throughly enjoy Destiny's combat, PVP and such. But to know we have been ripped out of a story that could rival that of Star Wars or even lord of the rings....why?!?!?!

            • i had the most fun i've ever had in a videogame the other night. me and 5 other buds were crushing shit and doing content. we had to split into 2 fireteams to take on the weekly heroic strike (not high enough to try raid but we should be ready by this weekend). then we remade the fireteam and decided to do some crucible and OMG...WE WRECKED. i don't mean like we won by 500 pts. i mean DECISIVE VICTORY 4 games in a row. the only game we lost was the first game when we were still getting used to everyones playstyles. but communication inside the crucible is really the key to succeeding at it. i just feel sorry for the other teams. but yeah....idk why ppl hate so much. i guess i'm just a casual

            • I an having a BLAST playing Destiny! I have a set group of friends that I play with on XBLive. I love playing Destiny with these people. That is what makes the game so much more fun.

            • I think your story is the norm! Good to see others enjoying the game as much as me. Most of us thoroughly enjoy Destiny, but there is always that 5% minority that will find a way to spotlight the negative in everything! I am having a blast, and I just joined the PSN with the Destiny PS4, therefore had no online contacts at all (all on XBLive). Slowly but surely, thanks to the forums, I am building a regular group of Destiny friends to spend some time with online...point is, this game is what you make it. It can suck if you feel entitled to having the best of everything (gear, wpns, cloak, band, etc...) handed to you, or with just a little effort, it can be a blast to play solo or with a group and earn those exotic/legendary rewards!

            • Destiny is everything Halo couldnt be. And that is saying a lot. People just dont understand the game... Halo is no longer what it used to be and I think people is looking for a game to replace that old halo. but destiny goes beyond that. For me, the more I play Destiny, the more I enjoy it.

              • same here, I'm having a blast with the game definitely. I play mostly solo but enjoyed the strikes too. Patrol missions (especially on the Cosmodrome) are terrific. I just loved to free-roam in these areas, taking time to look , leveling weapons, etc ...

                  • I'm enjoying it when I play solo. A game's sole purpose is to pass free time an give you entertainment while doing so. For me running around on my sparrow killing baddies an collecting resources to level up my guns is fun. In the back of my mind I keep hoping that the game will add more eventually an doing what I'm doing now to enjoy the game will pay off. I'm going to give it until beginning of next year. If it doesn't greatly improve with adding some social features an a little content than it will probably start fading very quickly as I'll have other games of interest by that time as the gift giving holidays are right around the corner.
