It seems I'm having a very different experience with the game than most...
I'm a software developer in my 30s. I work all day, come home, hit the gym or go for a bike ride, make dinner, and take care of the dog. After dinner, I boot up the PS4, create a party with 4 to 6 of my friends... work friends, childhood friends, friends I've just met... We hop in a PS4 party, then we all load up the game. We battle through all of the game's missions together. We take on the strikes. We take on the queens wrath missions. We're working on building up our light levels. We do patrols and bounties, and we all enter the Crucible together.
I am having an absolute blast playing Destiny with my friends. Maybe the difference is that I have a dedicated set of friends whom I can play the game with that make it so much fun, but reading through this board is very interesting to me. It seems that many of the people writing here are having a very different experience than I am having. Is it simply because I'm playing with my friends that I find what the developers at Bungie have given us so entertaining?

I'm having the same experience as you are. I see the quality in the game that I appreciate, though it's the ability to play it with friends that makes it the fun that it is.

Im having a blast too, and ive just been using destinylfg.com and destinylfg.net (not advertising, just suggesting) to find other people that love the game as much as I do. Its the most fun ive had gaming in a long time.

I think the frame work is here for something incredible, and that they clearly have a long term plan in place. I'm looking forward to seeing everything else that they have in store.

Having a similar experience. I work 10 days up north and am back for four days at a time. Have a wife and a daughter so just play a couple hours each morning I"m back. Hence I haven't burned through it all in less tha na week. Have two good friends who always log on and am really enjoying it.

Friends definitely make the game much more enjoyable. I have a friend who likes to zoom pass mobs to get to the mini boss / boss ASAP. So my friend and I convinced him to do a queen strike with us. We quickly switched it to the weekly level 28 strike and sat back and watched him zoom into a group and get blown away. Laughed our asses off for a good 20 minutes.

I'm in my 30's too and the majority of my friends don't even own game consoles anymore beyond Nintendo Wii's for their kids. This usually isn't a problem for me since most games that feature heavy online multiplayer aspects of the game experience also provide in-game matchmaking / communication as a way to meet NEW people who actually play the game I'm playing. Not Destiny though...where the expectation is to have this vast pool of online friends to play with or else.

I am having a great time as well, especially with the vault of glass! But I do know that this game could've been something better, and that it has flaws. I currently play with one of my friends i have known for a really damn long time, and more friends will join is around Christmas. A majority of my friends switched to the filthy PC

Your lucky enough to have 4-6 good friends all with the same console. I can't even get 1 more person from around here, so the game sucks ass for me, your basically right. Honestly though, bungie shouldn't have assumed everyone has 5 friends with the same console, because there are a lot of us that don't. Otherwise, without local people, I have to rummage through this hell-hole of a forum and make posts hoping that I'd get invited or find people to invite. Which is terrible because I can't even do any this without leaving the game, which makes it all the more worse for me. I think a lot of game designers could learn from what bungie hasn't done properly here (dealing with parties and such).

While I don't know the #'s I'd say that the majority of players are having a similar experience to you: (http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/70858573/0/0) There is a very angry minority who, for their varying but similar reasons, dislike this game and feel that everyone should know exactly why that is. In either case, take heart - they will eventually run out of things to complain about.. or quit the game.

Couldn't have been said better, I'm 24, working midnights, Destiny is a nice way to relax after I clock out. When friends are on, we bounce around the strike lists and crucible, laughing at our own mistakes, swearing at moves we call "cheap"... that we'll be trying to pull off on our own when we re-spawn, and just enjoying the game. I understand some people feel entitled to more because they bought the game... but I think I got my 60$ worth, and see no problem paying for expansions and seeing how they keep the game progressing. Great topic!

I love this game but i wish it wouldve never changed from two years back :/ all those factions, cutscenes, missions gone :(. Bungie please dont make this happen with Destiny 2 :)

I really like the game. I do feel there is a slight lacking of places to go (only four planets so far) and unfortunately no trading, which I wish was in the game, but all in all, I can have fun killing things on my own, or in a group (though I prefer a group). I think there is an unexpectedly large group of people that jumped on the first hint of a consiracy theory just to be part of the "cool" crowd that in all likelyhood, was never a fan of Halo, or Bungie, and just wanted to bitch at them for anything and everything they could. Bungie said in the begining, this is a marathon of a game, including DLC, not a sprint. We aren't done in the campaign story, or multiplayer content. Ten years was announced, we've only seen three weeks. Chill out, give it time, see what happens.

My friends on Xbox are now split between 360 and 1, so I actually have a very few friends to play with, but I still find the game fun. I remember playing the original Halo campaign hundreds of times over, each time finding something new or fun.

Playing with my brother and friend in our 3 man Fireteam make this game so much more fun. Even if we take on a Strike that is just beyond our level and die repeatedly it's just way more fun than playing a Strike with strangers you aren't talking to. This game was meant to be played with at least one other person.

i agree man 100% thats how it is for me i have 6 friends on everyday tha we play and its amazing shooting the shit with them until we get off i think the cry babies are anti social clown shoes who cant make friends lol

No the game isnt perfect but they're continuing to add on and fix issues with the game. The people I see doin the most complaining are people who already have 5-6 days played on the game thats been out for only 22 days (Im not exaggerating those stats either) Not many games we're made to be played 8 hours a day like a full time job. If you do that of course you're gonna get burnt out or bored with the game.

This community here on the boards is a very small percentage of the entire Destiny community. I, too, have alot of fun and play this game with a close group of friends. However, I agree with some of the things some people are saying (albeit not the way the are saying it). Matchmaking and more voice chat to name a couple.

Most players who play Destiny are playing it and don't come to the forums. I have the app to see what's coming up. That's it. Oh and to laugh at everyone being stupid on these forums :)

I may seem like you are the minority in this because everyone who is enjoying the game is actually playing it and not wearing down the forums with whining and crying. There's a group of people who have nothing better to do than complain, spew conspiracy theories, and lobby for others to hate the game like them(yet they are still playing it). Some of this may be true, but who cares... it is what it is. Does the game have flaws, yes. Is it perfect, no. Is it hella fun, yup. If the original intent was to entertain it has succeeded. Bungie seems to be listening to the community and tweak the game as needed. So I see no reason why more changes won't be made in the future to fill in some of the gaps and make it more exciting experience overall.

When you're with friends even the most boring or cruel of situations can instantly become better. The phrases: "Suffer with me" and "I'd rather be bored with you than bored by myself" come from. I'm having fun with Destiny, but that's probably because I too have a group of friends I play with every night. Although, I'm sure we'd have fun playing anything together. I wont doubt that a lot of the people complaining probably don't have many people to play with, but that's not to say Destiny doesn't have its problems with lack of content and a fulfilling reward system at the moment. However, that's another topic in itself.

And considering that Bungie invented matchmaking, it's absolutely pathetic its absence from Destiny. I remember playing BL2 thinking "Man, this matchmaking sucks. Destiny will have awesome matchmaking." I now ironically find myself wishing Destiny had the matchmaking BL2 had.

/agree I'm having a total blast with the game. In a clan but as I haven't get voice coms setup i'm letting them raid atm, I will get there. so mostly playing solo and still completely loving being in the world of destiny, even if it's just sitting in the tower watching the fantastic lighting change with the hours.
