Or maybe, they decided as this game franchise has a 10 year plan, that they hold back on certain bits as to not rush the whole experience... Just playing devils advocate, but everyone is so very cynical...

 • Part of the cynicism comes from the fact that this game has been in development of some sort for close to a decade. With that amount of planning I think they would have the story paced out far earlier than a year prior to launch (when the gutting allegedly happened).

 • I agree, it looks terrible. However, as bad as the story is so far, we all know its going to be elaborated on with DLC and possible sequels, which would have always been the case. For the record, I was massively disappointed with the story, but the mechanics still make this game the best I've played for ages. I ground Borderlands 1 and 2 for a long time and find it much more pleasing in Destiny.

 • Don't you think they are lowering the bar by selling a bad story for full price with just the promise that it will get better later? It just seems like this game gives less than most games were giving 5-10 years ago, and we are just supposed to accept it. And you're right, the mechanics are excellent, but I think we need to be careful in what we approve or else the Destiny model will be repeated in the future. I personally don't plan on downloading any DLC because that's the only way Bungie and Activision will listen.

 • By your logic, the first four words of the Star Wars movies should have been "I am your father". No appreciation for pacing....

 • By your logic, the first Star Wars film shouldn't have existed. Im fine with pacing. But as a major installment in the franchise, there needs to be some development in the narrative. I like mysteries, and I wasn't asking for all questions to be answered, but there should have been some weight to your actions. Halo CE had a great plot despite revealing very little about the overall story arc of the franchise. Destiny could've at least attempted to do the same.

 • Halo CE wasnt planned to be a 10 year journey, it just took off. And something tells me back then you were complaining about something else. Probably the repetetive levels like that -blam!-ing Library. "Come ON, Bungie," you were saying, "At least stop wasting my time with these filler levels!" Yup, that was you. Complaining.

 • -blam!- off dude. I've been a Bungie apologist for a long time. I liked Reach, I liked all of the Halos, and I didn't criticize every little detail like many people so. This is different - Destiny is clearly underwhelming in its story. I don't need big cut scenes. I just need some reason to give a shit. And illogical plot progression and no build up to meaningful events doesn't do that. No patience you think? How about the game had some patience and had your character ask a few questions after being resurrected from the dead and before he decides he will just start fighting. There are some good things. Obviously the mechanics are tight. But all around it's average and lacking content, not repetition, to make it a game competitive with other options out there. I'm not being ridiculous and saying I'm gonna sue Bungie, but I probably won't be buying the DLC. Happy to vote with my feet.

 • More power to you then :) I bought the digital edition with DLC so I can't "not buy it" but again, I don't have the same worries as everyone else. I'm enjoying the grind and if they throw in some new story arc's in future, great. If not I'm still going to consider the hours I put in as value for money. "Bad story" is a subjective term to be honest, I was underwhelmed, but it wasn't the worst game story I've seen. Its a bit like Peter Jackson turning one Hobbit book into 3 films. Money. We've only seen the first part of it, and I'm sure with this feedback they will flesh the story out a bit more.

 • Most of us assumed it would be like a trilogy, with extra bonus stuff to hold us over in between the complete games. What they did is like taking a single movie, chopping it up and spreading it out over ten years. So far all I see is the same handful missions over and over with various modifiers, an "open world" where the enemies are always in the same places with zero unpredictability, and a tiny multiplayer. Everything is just so monotonous.
