You can also patrol the cosmodrome and run to right before you enter devils lair. The walker is there. Not sure how long the spawn timer is but you could probably just wait around

I just go to orbit and come back, or you can wait for the public event in The Divide that happens at 10-15 min after the hour or 20-15 min to the hour.

It doesn't work though. I've done that, the public event, and even the strike where you kill it. Doesn't give me progress when I've killed them.

You have to be the one with final killing shot. This is a bug that they will latch next week, but for now you have to have the final kill shot. Try patrol in the cosmodrome and go where it appears in the strike. Chances are you'll be alone and you can take it down quite easily with sniper and rockets. Might want to bring some extra ammo snyths with you.

I found this to be the easiest as well by going on the Patrol. Once you kill it, just head to orbit and come back
