Daily heroic gives you 2 shards, either energy or ascended. 1 public event a dat guarantees either a shard or energy. Nightfall mission has a chance of giving you 12shards as a reward etc etc...

If it's a guarantee how come I never got one from a public event? I do about 3 a day.

I've played a lot since launched and have barely found any. Mostly gotten energy. There has to be a way to get items needed differently like maybe patrols because I'll tell you now 10 rep a completion and nothing tangible to show for that much grinding isn't worth it.

Edited by Thezzanman: 9/23/2014 5:10:17 PMYa, I have zero luck when it comes to shards / energy... Only way I've gotten em since the 1st few days of leveling is the 2 legs I couldn't use. Daily heroic hates me, as does weekly. Still need to do nightfall but no matchmaking kinda sux.

Well even if you did patrols you could get a chance of shards on completion or even the element of the area as a reward would be nice. Or even from the chests which are rather pointless with nothing but greens and a few elements. There needs to be more rarity. I just feel that the gear pool isn't that deep

Patrols are fine, you do like 200-350rep an hour if you do patrols solo. You reach rank2 Vanguard in no time. By Now everyone should have enough coins to buy 1 piece of exotic gear from xur. So then you need a couple of pieces more....if you are really unlucky and havent found a thing you can buy them from the Vanguard quartermaster or do the Queens bounties and spend one day gearing up and farm shards the following days. ITS all Good man, always a way.

I'm curious, why do you say that you get that much rep if you do them solo? Does group patrol work end up netting you less rep somehow?

Group patrol can actually rep you at least double that Each hour (spread out on the map) but figured most people do it solo. ITS how I leveld my Vanguard to rank3

Motes of Light are good too. 23 will get you an exotic engram and it decrypts into an exotic. I got an awesome chest piece, the one with the Wolf, but I need a new helmet to replace my exotic one first, lol Can't wait for him to come back, already got 8 coins and 30 motes hehe

If you have extra Marks' buy gauntlets they dismantle into shards (2 or 3). The Queens bounties Get on those while iTS live. Each bounty gives you a mission which rewards you with a piece of gear which you can also dismantle into shards (2 or 3). If the Queens bounties are refreshed daily Thats like at least 10shards a day.
