Standards on games are soooo low these days...it saddens me. What's worse is that the game industry knows this and exploits it....sooner or later we are going to pay 100$ for a 2 hour "tutorial" and need to pay 50$ extra each mission DLC.

  • You must be young, this is how online video games have been. Once upon a time there was a game called EverQuest, where you bought the game for $60, payed $15 a month to play, as well as the expansions that came out every 6-8 months where prices ranged from $30 to full price. Many of us would argue Destiny is just fine the way it is, since we've played through a time when online gaming cost a LOT more than this will ever cost.

  • Not quite, but i hate online gaming because of the bullshit they do. At least i can get the game and usually get a FREE 15 days or 30 day to play it...and play the shit out of it and then not sub again. I'm actually an older gamer, you know, when i buy my games i like them to be completed. Take starcraft, it was complete...then they added in an expansion which was almost as complete as the original was with more shit and tons of story... no DLC...no sub...no nothing, game contained in itself and actually felt like a game...not a -blam!-ing prologue. It's not that i don't like destiny, but i have other things in life to do and i feel nothing compelling me to put those things aside to play this game. Hell, i felt more compelled to play Xenogears more than play this game. Or Soul Sacrifice. I felt more compelled to Play Halo ODST which is just sad in itself.

  • Those games are not a very good comparison to this game. The reason they feel more "complete" is they aren't always changing. You can get some DLC for them later on, but they don't have new things every week or two. So this game not feeling completed is because it isn't complete. It grows on a constant. If anything people should really and truly be happy their isn't a subscription fee to keep the content evolving. If you don't like that sort of thing in a video game, then I would recommend you play it till you are done, take a break for a few weeks or months, however long you feel necessary, then come back and experience the new stuff, then rinse and repeat. That is how I play WoW, and each time I enjoy it because it feels like a new game, but I still have to pay a sub for that.

  • Except if i had a sub, then the game better be -blam!-ing complete unlike this. Also, those games were complete and i put in 10x more time into them because i wanted to do shit in it. I played this for 6 hours and went "cool...so literally this is all there is for 100+ hours...grind...shoot..." without a story i feel no need to do anything. Guess the 70$ up front made me think i would be getting a game, not a half done game where every week they give me 1% more of the game... Also at least for games with a sub i'm getting a game and then play the shit out of it for the 15-30 days that come free with the game itself, and if i feel bored i unsub...this just feels like i put 70$ down for 30 minutes repeated infinity times...

  • Even if you sub to a game, you still paid for the initial game. Also when WoW first came out, it did not have much endgame, people didn't think it'd last and thought Runescape was going to hold the MMO king title because of it. They thought, "oh, all you do is quest and grind and farm mats with a dungeon here or there. Then you finally get to do the endgame which consisted of gearing up and running the only raid available". They did not realize that by the time they got there, there was already more content in the game put in before they could catch up. Next thing you know, WoW is mmo king and has held the title for a decade. With Destiny, we get a new update tomorrow. Have you done VoG on hard mode yet? By the time you do get that far, how far do you think Destiny will be? They have more content coming over the next couple months along with their first DLC in December. The game doesn't look complete, but you are trying to see over a wall that is taller than you(wall being whatever content is top right now, which is VoG hard at the moment). Eventually you will climb your way up to the top of the wall, get over it, and realize that there is another one waiting for you to climb. The only people that can truly say that they have completed all content are the ones that dedicate almost all their free time to the game, which usually is a bit unhealthy. You are here on the forums right now, which means you are not dedicating "all" of your free time. So I think that in order for you to say the game is incomplete is true, but you have to have done everything their is to do before you can be upset about that. I'm not saying there aren't flaws. Peter Dinklage's voiceover was sub-par and the story was plain, boring, and uneventful so far. It is however, I just really hate making this comparison, but people always forget what WoW was on release and what it ended turning into. If Destiny goes down the same path, then you will have no worries about running out of stuff to do. Just as of now, play the game, and try to do everything you can before complaining about running out of stuff.

  • i'm not saying raids and strikes and pvp aren't fun, i play mainly for the strikes...and the pvp is good...but i expected some semblance of a story...ODST was 6 hours long and had a better story than destiny destiny...i just can't fathom how they could put something like this out there...SWtOR had a better story and it was an MMO as well. my main issue is i have no connection to the game...loot? grind? so what i have like 100 other games i can do that in that give me more story than destiny...why should i play destiny over those...

  • I do agree that the story is extremely lacking. I also think that in this day and era stories are a strong part of what makes a game. However, I also feel that a story being bad doesn't hinder the gameplay, the immersion, yes. I however stream every time I play, and i'm usually in a party chat. So immersion isn't an issue, but I do understand not everyone plays with people or streams. If you want to a game simply for the story I would suggest you play one of the other 100 games you have. Destiny will be here for you when you want to just have a good cooperative shooting hangout, maybe in the future the story get's deeper. I will say that pretty much everyone that has enjoyed the game so far and even the ones that say they are in love with it, know the story sucked and still enjoy the game otherwise.

  • probably, i'm most likely going to just put it down for a bit until more complete story portions come out...oh well.

  • That's the best I could recommend. If you have fun with just the gameplay carry on, if the story is your main driving force, take a break, play shadow of Mordor XD, then come back later down the road where the story might give us more background and have a little more going for it. It has a lot of potential, especially if they start telling about the past and we uncover more about the war between the darkness and light. I enjoy reading alot of the grimoire cards I get because they are written pretty decently and they slowly unfurl some small details. We just need more puzzle pieces to start making the corner of a picture.

  • I like them as well, my only disappoint is the order...since i have no clue what i got at certain parts and some grimoire especially the dead ghosts are situation important as they describe an area and what happened. But i think i'll be focusing on some more gameplay then take a break until other shit comes out.

  • Also, if you are doing the same thing every 30 minutes, then maybe you should stop farming the cave and do some crucible or something.

Yeah, soon we WILL have to pay for nothing but tutorials and prologues, and it'll be-oh wait that's already happening. If you need proof MGS Ground Zeroes and Destiny are 2.

  • I'm actually in support of MGS V:GZ because it was a decent amount of game time for the price you paid, and I think it was a smart move since noone even had an idea how MGS V was supposed to fit into the storyline at all. I would say I'd rather pay 60$ for a full released game but have a little taste for 30$ to understand the full game a little better. And it's just a welcome feeling to play a new MGS game, even if it's an in between.

The game started out costing $40, and I know some people who beat the game in under an hour. Not everybody lives and breathes off side missions.

  • But what can we do about it???? The entire gaming community has to put its foot down and stop pre-ordering because then the devs already have your money so why should they care about making a proper game.. It much easier and more pleasurable to take that money to the Bahamas with you. "But if we don't pre-order we don't get the limited edition whatever" I hear people saying.. Hook line and sinker is all I have to say about that. Battlefield 4 is probably the best resent example I can bring to mind. People are still going on about how broken the game is and it's at least 10 months old. And that type of thing seems to be happening more and more, because gamers are letting it. I don't know exactly what can be done but unless WE as a community do something, big gaming companies will continue to s**t on us and we'll continue to wonder why they don't care about the people lining their pockets with money.

  • Lol yeah I know. It was a bit long winded but you had an awesome point that I've been thinking about for a while now. Just think of the Nintendo 64 days for a moment. What do you think would have happened if (for example) goldeneye had been released in the state that some games have been released in recently?? Rare would have gotten a bad rep as a company that can't make games and would have gone out of business quicker than you can say bankrupt. But these days we just put up with it in the hope that they'll fix it with the next patch.. Not cool IMO
