The only exploit to it is that you gain exp simply for being in proximity of the farmers. Even if you aren't in a fireteam. I am somewhat shocked that that hasn't been addressed.
But the actual gaining of loot? That part is just fine.

its just small fregments, so maybe power level someone to 10 but nothing gamebreaking IMO.

I know someone went from 17-20 during dinner. I had the 9k exp without dying bounty and the huge hive/fallen battle broke and I finished the bounty in like 5 minutes. Engrams will drop for you even if you don't fire your weapon. I think it makes a difference.
