I just don't get it. Purchased the game a few days after it came out. Worked my character up to a 24 and decided to venture into the multiplayer world thinking it would be fun and I would figure it out. I have spent the last few hours being cannon fodder and have no clue what is going on (other than there seem to be players with shields and I have none and don't know how to get them) and feel generally frustrated. I've really enjoyed the story line and the co-op - but have no idea how people enjoy and/or advance on the PvP side of it.

  • My advice, avoid sniper rifles and pistols until you get better with PvP. I normally suck at PvP but with a good fusion rifle (charging laser shotgun) and the right gear I can do pretty good. Some maps will suck that's a fact (I fail on vehicle maps) but learn them, learn the hiding spots, learn where the alternate paths are and take advantage of them. Another close range tip, follow an ally closely then when you see them nearing another player move to position. If your ally dies the enemy will most likely keep coming, but since your still and he killed the blip on his radar his guard will be down because the radar says he is safe. Also DOT grenades generally suck unless the stick to players.

  • I think you should spend some time getting to know the abilities of ALL the subclasses and supers, not just the one you use. It helps a lot so you will know what situations to go into guns blazing and when to just walk away.

  • This is right I believe. You look at others and it shows 2 bars, for you on your HUD it is just the 1 broken down like this: "Your "shield" is the the first 2/3rds of your life bar and the last 3rd is your hp. You can tell by the color it turns when you take damage. If it's still white, that's your shield, if it's red then that's your hp." Some classes like the Titan defender and Walock get a blue over shield (blue) for their melee attack (some others perks grant them like striker sprint or defender bubble) under some instances ect. Some of these are just an over shield and their health below stays low. Others also have a heal so the shield is there and if you break it they are at full HP as well

  • The Titan and Warlock have skills that gives them shields. And just practice. Your load out in pve may not work as well in pvp, so feel free to change it up. Also, it takes some practice to see what the other classes can do, and to know what to look for. So practice makes perfect.

  • This. I change my perks when I go to crucible. And I only use my AR and Shotgun. Also it takes time. It's a totally different animal. You are going to get your ass beat DOZENS and DOZENS of times before it starts to click and you start having better games. But even then you will have good games and bad games. Even individual games, I've started out horribly only to get into a groove in the second half. For me I am only looking to kill more people than kill me. But that is frustrating for me. I don't Ever Want to die. But dying is part of PvP.

Don't let the deaths kick you down. It happens to the best of us. Even then, havng the mentality of "don't die," is a good one to have. It'll make you think smarter, and approach situations in a more tactful manner.

This may not help you, but its just a part of my personal experience with the game since release. I'm sure you'll get used to it. PvP is nothing compared to PvE. I mean, i'm on the verge of level 21, with about half my blade dancer skills. Its my first FPS on xbox for quite sometime and admittedly, i did struggle a little bit first time PvP on Destiny but don't let it dishearten you. As my skills increased it did get substantially easier as well as experience. It didn't take long at all to start dominating the games. Test with different weapons, armor and skills to find what you are most comfortable with. As always, go for headshots. EDIT: You have to take into account the people you get matched with also. ;)
