One problem with that theory: the Hive. They're described as being worshippers of the Darkness to the point where they're on a crusade to destroy the Light. If we truly were the Darkness, wouldn't logic dictate they would fight on our side?

Not necessarily, I mean in the Destiny world It seams that light is the energy associated with death and resurrections, more like necromancy than anything else. The Black Garden is apparently a part of 'The Darkness' yet is the birth place of life. So it would seem that light is the evil energy in this storyline.
