Hey man, I have had the same issue with many achievements. I found out on YouTube what to do:-
Log in to you character until in orbit
Press start and RB to your settings
Hover over "log off" and select change user
Select your profile and log back into orbit
This has worked for me with about 6 achievements...

Yeah, that's what I was trying to explain in my post above. That is a much more succinct way to put it. Thanks. I fixed my achievement problem already tho.

Lol cool although there is another guy in a post who has tried this and still isn't getting the achievements...

well that sucks man. I don't know if it is on Bungie's end or MS's end but it is kind of annoying.
