Most MMO type games don't have a good story....for instance World of Watercraft....and look how well that game is doing.....Bungie is combining alot of different elements here...as long as the game is fun.I have no problems....the story is passable, pretty bad though for sure...but people who expected a Halo type story need to rethink and look what Bungie is trying to accomplish here

Not true. The Secret World has an amazing and very deep story. WoW was (is) all about the loot grind and uses lore to give it atmosphere and competition. Frankly vanilla WoW told a better story than Destiny and that was in chat bubbles and lots of reading in game.

I'm talking overall...alot of them are just average....but Destiny is a amazingly fun game...if your playing this game for strictly story...wrong game...if u wanna play for fun lots of grinding and loot....this is the game for you

Edited by Shiva: 9/17/2014 5:46:21 PMOn average their stories are average but this is below average. Great game, terrible story to date but with great ideas and potential to fix that problem. I admittedly put story first, but also have lots of games that I LOVE just to kill stuff and make things go BOOM! And on that point I LOVE Destiny. Just can't say its story is currently worth a damn. Look at Bullet Storm. Loved that game. Not much of a story but more there than here but the game play was so damn much fun with over the top humor. Borderlands on the other hand has a decent to good story and addictive as hell game play with great crass humor. (Yeah, not much humor in Destiny so maybe not a great comparison)

you sir are so far out its amazing. WoW doesnt have a good story? if Destiny has lore anything like WoW even if i have to read novels to understand it im all about it. but your statement and comparisons are weak as hell.
-
Yes but Bungie promised a good story. I don't care how it's told I just want that promise fulfilled.
-
Yes,but look how many different elements they are trying to implement...something has to give...unfortunately thus far the story is lame..at this point I can say this for sure..Destiny was over hyped from a marketing standpoint.....I think the reviews are not fair...Most reviewers are giving this game low scores based on the story not overall..if u look at the overall game I think it deserves about a 8...it's a fun game and I'm having a BLAST! And so are A LOT OF PEOPLE! :)

Can I recommend Destiny - absolutely but not if you want a good story from it and nothing else.
-
Games like WoW also had lore and world building. These are the elements Destiny desperately needs.
-
Well considering Bungie wants this game to last 10 years....I get the the feeling they have a plan..game has only been out for a little over a week..give it chance
-
No. That excuse is garbage and you know it. "They'll do it later" is not a valid excuse for not putting it in now.
-
So how do explain World of Warcraft being more vanilla when it launched some 12 years ago? And now today it's huge and still content is coming!...yeah Destiny is no WOW right now by any means, but it has the elements to become really good..it's only been out for a damn week, give it a chance to grow, I agree story is terrible, but so many great things about the game minus the story...just be patient, if I'm wrong then fine, more power to ya,but your judging a game before it has time to grow...and this is a game that needs to grow, which it was designed to do..so give it time..no disrespect, but just give it time..I hope I'm not wrong, but ya never know..
-
WoW had more content than it's competitor which less top it becoming the giant it is today, and it was judged as it was. Destiny does not, and I'm judging as it is. The future is nothing more than words, I look at actual substance, not promises.
-
Give it a chance that's all I'm saying
-
Did I say I was leaving? I made a significant investment in this game and will keep playing, but will not ignore the disappointment and blatant half handed job Bungie did.
-
It's also bungies first attempt at a console MMO, that's supposed to last 10 years... It's only a week in. Give them time
-
And they didn't tell Master Chief's story in Halo? Come on, they know better.
-
They had time to deliver a finished product. MMOs aren't half finished and then thrown to the wind. Expansions are supposed to expand upon the universe, not finish it.
-
They have a finished product... 10 years of product obviously.. They aren't just goig to give you the Entire Game in 1 week... Even WoW had to start somewhere basic foundation and built up on that.
-
So we didn't purchase the entire game? Strange, that's exactly what I thought I was buying. To the point, WoW and others MMOs are self contained, from day one you get everything. They might as more stuff, but nothing is removed from the initial release just to put it back in later, as DLC or otherwise. And please, stop trying to justify Bungie's error, it makes you look like an apologist.
-
You did purchase the entire game it's just coming along more like a movie/TV/book series or did you not look at the last September event?
-
Really? It write as hell doesn't feel like I did. Usually they introduce characters and have you learn more about the seeing, or maybe you just have litter expectations.
-
The explanation as to who the character is is outside the game (bad idea IMO). Ghosts are explained by The Speaker, The traveler is sort of explained by the opening cut scene as is the darkness, The enemy backstories are in the grimore what people seem to have a problem with is that most of this requires more work than they're willing to put in or it's too straightforward with very little information. And then there are characters, such as the stranger Exo, that we are told so little about that no really cares apparently. I don't have lighter expectations what I do have is a higher willingness to go looking for the story behind the story.
-
In broad terms, the backstory is vague. When it comes to characters, vague. Enemies, vague. There's nothing of substance here, and I have gone through the grimoire, vague, all of it.
-
What the Greeks and Romans were able to do was pretty vague if someone from the middle/dark age, like William the conquer, had looked at it. That is where we're at right now the "dark ages" following the golden age created by the Traveler. That is why it's so vague.

Justify Bungies error? Bungie released one of the most popular Xbox franchises in history, and you have little faith that they can pull it off again. Bungie may have not released a great campaign, but has thousands of surprises for us in the upcoming future.. Faith. You lack it.'
