Does anybody realize that Destiny is far from over....?

Just wondering if there are people out there that realize that what we've played so far.. that 20+ hours you've put into this game so far is only the beginning? That the reason the "story" is lacking is because there really isn't one right now on purpose? That all we've seen so far is a brief introduction into the massive world Bungie is opening us up to (and a damn good introduction at that)? This isn't Assassin's Creed where you play it for 4 days, get through the story and be done with it. I honestly think we've only experienced a tenth of what Bungie has in store for us. Being an intelligent consumer you have to know what you're in for, the $90 I spent on this game is not for a 16 hour story and some silly side quests. It's an investment in a franchise from a company which brought us the likes of HALO. Let's have some sense comrades. I look at a lot, not all, but a lot of these complaints and when you break them down people are, in essence, complaining that they haven't played and seen everything the game has to offer yet. Bungie, over the next days, months, years, will be giving us more to play, see and do. Did you people play WoW or Skyrim for a couple days and then cry? No, because you realized that those games, like this one, are far from over after intro. I also realize that some folks are never happy. If Bungie had introduced to us from the very beginning, 4389142 gun types, 4378 enemy types, 76 different planets and such, there would be those that after racing through all of it in a week would still be unhappy. These are the people I pray for at night. I'm saying all this to basically say we need to give Bungie time to reveal to us what they have up their VERY LARGE sleeves. Stop whining about paying for expansions when I bet most of you bought all the Halo DLC when it was nothing but, if my memory serves me right, multiplayer map packs.... nothing to evolve the story like it is in this case... but different maps to shoot each other on... C'mon son... Let's give an ENORMOUS game like Destiny more than a week to prove itself.. I mean hey, you beat CoD in 10 hours and then shoot each other on the same maps for half a year before complaining.

  • Unfortunately the problem is that Destiny is a massive change to the norm so people are comparing it to other examples just as you have. Nobody came into it with the expectation of a new experience, only a new game. The thing is this is an entirely different work from CoD and WoW and Halo. It's Destiny. The game is new all around and people don't like new. If you show somebody a new type of food they typically won't just jump in and love it, they have to eat it regularly before they change their minds. That's what this is.

  • But skyrim shipped with a full story that was worth 60$ WoWs comtent patches have a direction they are leading. Destiny has no direction (in game) and no details (other than these are aliens shoot them)

  • Uh... right from the start, everyone realizes its far from over, everyone knows they have a 10 year plan... Probablem is. It's far from starting, what we were given is nothing more than an extended tutorial. Is that a hard concept? We don't even have a foundation yet. You can introduce a much more full game than this, and then expand on it until it reaches epic proportions. Or we can have, after a number of years, the same amount of content you would get in say, the initial dropping of FFXIV.

Yes I can't wait to pay for more content that should have been in the game from the beginning! Why is everyone defending Bungie when they clearly left stuff out of the main story? I love the game but the overall feeling about the story was that it was a fail...even in the story they try selling you on the DLC pretty much.

    • How is it far from over? I have 2 almost completely equipped characters and I've seen even more people who are fully UPGRADED too. People have finished the story and reached the maximum level cap in 2 weeks. There's nothing more for them to do. If you have your favourite exotic and 3 pieces of legendary, the game is over. Bungie can add as much story as they want. This game is damn tiny. Skyrim has soaked up hundreds of hours of my time and i don't even feel like i've scratched the surface of that world. Destiny has lasted 2 weeks and i've done every mission 50 times, found my optimum armor and played every multiplayer game type. Your post 'assumes' and 'hopes' that Bungie has something up it's sleeve, but point is, from the evidence we have right now, it's finished.

    • If I may give voice to the opposition? You mentioned WoW. When WoW came out, it was complete. They did not plan from day one to add the Burning Crusade. That came later. Your initial release must be as complete as possible. Additionally, after 16 hours of playing WoW, I might have moved from the Stormwind area into the second zone (I can't recall it's name currently). This was hardly a portion of the total game length. The game was massive in size and scope, and had a great deal of story depth in each zone. Destiny, by contrast, has the complete story delivered within a 20 hour window. So far it seems that this is all the story that was created for your initial $60 investment. Yes, the mechanics are very well done. Yes, the graphics are amazing. And yes, there are elements that are fun. none of this, however, detracts from the incredibly short and shallow story that Bungie created. The only shining moment for me in the story were the parts involving the Rift. The rest was, regrettably, difficult to remember as it wasn't presented in an involving manner. It has been said that the story will be extended, however having seen the first month's updates posted, it appears that none of these updates involve additions to the story. Salvage, Combined Arms, and Iron Banner are all PvP events. The Vault of Glass is a specific reward for hard-core raid players and isn't even intended for the general game population. The Queen's Wrath, which I had hopes for, now seems to be no more than a few additional bounties and perhaps a mission mode or two. Nothing on the horizon seems to hint at adding depth or expansion on the "legend" of Destiny. You mentioned DLC. it is entirely possible that the DLC will add further chapters for Destiny's story. So additional story chapters are only being given out with further expenditures of money? And, given how small and thin the original telling of Destiny was, what suggests that further chapters will have any more level of complexity or depth? Bungie has created a very nice PvP game, and if I had any interest in PvP I might be more impressed. I am, however, not a PvP player. As far as PvE, Bungie doesn't appear to have a solid grasp on what they need to be doing. I am aware that this is a well known and professional design team, but from the perspective of the game's story, that experience seems to be sadly lacking. I had hoped that additional chapters would be forthcoming prior to the DLC release, but the more I see, the less likely this seems. There is a lot of material to work with. Perhaps not the largest of casts, although this is also the fault of the design team, but there is a great deal of lore that can be explored. If they work at it, Bungie can turn Destiny into a truly great game for a multitude of players. If not, I fear that the game will lose much of its PvE player base once other games release over the next several months.

        • This is true... I just wish that Activision wasn't part of this whole spheal so we could have the full game up front. If Bungie were in charge, you can bet that we would have the full picture right in front of us. But since Activision loves sucking every available penny out of games, we have Bs like paid DLC.

        • I have an indicator this is all true.. Bungie has so much in store for the future of Destiny, they are aware of all the major advancements now for the next decade, of but we are not yet.. A GameStop manager I know attended a private game dev conference last week and told me later that Bungie plans to run Destiny for 10 years.. The lifespan Sony is purporting PS4 will last for.. I think Bungie has plenty up its sleeve it's not letting fully on to yet..

            • I'm with you man. Jumped in the Vault of Glass tonight. This is what I bought this game for. VoG is quite simply the sickest content I have ever experienced in a game. People who say the game is to small have no idea, the obviously haven't been in the Vault. The objectives and the team dynamics are unbelievable. I don't often gush over video games like this, but Bungie has blown me away with VoG. The thing about Destiny is that they are not just gonna give it all to you in the first week or the first month or the first year. You are going to have to dig. And not necessarily just farming and grinding for gear. And not just relying on luck of the draw loot drops. You've gotta grind a bit, and some aspects can be repetitive, but when you get to the Vault you will be glad you did the same Strikes over and over on harder and harder difficulties, because to get through the VoG you are going to need to be highly competent in the mechanics of the game. If you haven't beaten all the strikes on the hardest difficulty, haven't completed the daily heroics, haven't completed the weekly heroics, haven't completed the weekly nightfall, haven't completed the exotic weapon bounties, you will not survive the VoG. And this is only the first raid. This game is the Halo killer! There is not a game out right now that comes anywhere close, at least not one that I have played.

So you're saying that on day one, Destiny has just as much content as day one for WoW and Skyrim? Lol! WoW was an enormous game that didn't make you pay for each chapter of the story. In my first £8.99 payment I saw a bazillion times more stuff than I have done with my £50 to Destiny. (I'm not hating on Destiny, but it's no secret they scammed us with the story. I'm not sure I want to pay £35 to hear the next 2 brief parts of the story) P.S - The game has been out for almost two weeks. I already gave it a week to prove itself.

              • Are you familiar with MMOs? They are supposed to be 10 times the size of this game. Games like Skyrim and WoW took over 100 hours to hit the level cap, THEN you got endgame content. Not after a mere 15 hours and 20 levels. AND the endgame content was different from the game content. AND there were more than one raid. Is this the new game model? Give half a game to start and then charge for DLC to get the rest of the game? Destiny is NOT an ENORMOUS gamew right now. It's compared to other MMOs and even other games like Borderlands where it takes about 40 hours to finish the story. There is no excuse for this. I don't know how you can defend delivering only part of a game

                • Sorry, but the problem people are having with this game is its half a game and for 60 dollars no less. Alot of what was promised or perceived as promised is missing. You can't go every where the game shows for one. What's that? we don't want you going to the top of that cliff. Oh wait, your leaving the area? You have 5 seconds to come back where we want you. Don't even get me started on the space ships that are just placeholders for loading. Why even have all these cool designs if you can't actually fly them. Plays great I'll give them that. Ohhh I'm sure in a year or two it will be amazing and story fleshed out with ungodly amounts of DLC and another 80 of our hard earned dollars, but right now it's an unfinished game at full game price.

                  • They didn't have to release story DLC for Halo, as the story was already all there. It was optional to read the books, and dive into the lore headfirst, it helped shape a larger universe for Halo, but as for the game's story, everything the player needed to complete each chapter of the Halo franchise and fully understand what was going on was in the game, not in an app, not on a website, it was in the game.

                    • ill give them a month to create some form of response to the community about issues expressed in feedback. i assumed destiny was a work in progress as soon as i saw it..i post my ideas in feedback and my personal issues with the game. eveyone moaning and groaning about destiny being a flop..that depends entirely on the effort bungie puts into it. what we have here is a foundation..albiet one with cracks that need repair. hopefull over time they fix those cracks and start to expand on the game..for now it has enough content to keep me for a month maybe 2...and i have the loyalty to stick with it if promised progress. these forums are pretty toxic... but if you just came from dust 514..then this is nothing..

That is total bs. Paid 60$ for a AAA title not for what the game will be in the future if I wanted that I'd go to kickstarter. The future content for destiny is even selling right now at a ridiculous premium for dlc. This is just insulting to a consumer. You don't buy a movie ticket because 6 months later it will get good. It is a valid point that for 60$ we have been ripped off in terms of content and customer support (they don't have any CS). And Destiny is not enormous, it is a TINY world whose only interaction you get is a trigger.

I get the part about spreading the story out I think it's smart from a marketing stand point, but really it just pissed off most people.

The PS4 isn't even a year old and from what I have seen on the PS3 I wasn't expecting much aside from a solid and fun game that looks and plays great. So far I just hit level 20 and I'm pretty happy and still enjoying it. I'll probably be playing it for some time. Though it would be nice for a super high def game with tons of action and drama and a massive huge worlds. We are getting there slowly, but surely.
