Don't people play for fun anymore?
I remembered why I started playing video games, it was a way to escape into a fantasy world for hours on end that provided entertainment and just fun. These days, it seems like everyone has forgotten what the simple purpose of video games are; Destiny being no exception. It seems whether it's PVP or even PVE; players have gotten so serious about playing. Now don't get me wrong, when engaging an enemy, of course everyone wants to win, but even if you lose, it should have been fun just to try, especially when facing off an enemy with allies at your side. Sigh...maybe I am just sentimental and I probably will get heat for this post, but....I really want to know....do any of you players...just play to have fun...win or lose...just the adventure itself makes you happy?
Hi everyone, first off I would just like to thank all of you for commenting on the post. Even if you have different opinions, it's absolutely fine because you are more than entitled to it. I was just happy to read that so many of you still believe in the basic fundamentals of fun, and even though some of you have carved out your own definitions of the word and what it means to you, I sincerely hope that you truly enjoy your gaming experiences, whether its with Destiny or any other game you might play. 1 ReplyGreat post and to be honest the only game that I have recently have been able to play just for fun is EvE online. But i try and have fun with Destiny when i have some down time to play it, i just wish it had a bit more launch content or a different form of leveling up past 20 rather than being a grind fest for better armor :(

I play for fun, but I'll admit, it's frustrating when you're doing Co-op and someone keeps making facepalm inducing decisions to get themselves,and you killed in countless ways, all while your time(your personal real life time) is finite and you're trying to enjoy yourself. PVP tends to be competitive by design so, it's a mix of fun and competition to me, and even when I have a bad round or my team and I can't seem to coordinate or get in a rhythm, I just forget it and hope the next round is better(can be frustrating too).

Fun is different for everyone. Being serious and winning is fun for some people.

I would argue just the opposite actually. Yes, people do seem to take losing a bit too seriously sometimes, but my issue is with the lack of competitiveness in this game. No visible ranking system has lead to people just playing run-and-gun tactics. People just want kills--not wins based on teamwork and tactics.

I like to just play hardcore over the game once then do it again and truly listen and play the strory for fun

I wish I could go back to myself 3 years ago where I would play PvP and dont give a damm what happen to me i just had fun. These days I try not to play PvP because I have a bad habbit of just wanting to be comptative and start being aggresesive to other players. I do some PvP in destiny because it is fun to get slaughterd by the opposite team espescially when your the same level as them. Destiny has changed my competative side to what i was like 3 years ago.

6 RepliesShow me where the fun in being 1 shot in pvp by every weapon in the game and melee and super and vehicles grenades please show me where the fun is. Please show me how fun it is to do the same fight over and over just on a re skinned boss. They are all the same adds come and boss runs around absorbing 10 mins worth of bullets. You don't need to be good to be rewarded with the loot, most the epic loot gram things wind up being greens yea this game is so fun right?

I like to win, but I play for fun. I mean if you get too focused on winning to the point you can't have fun, what's the point? Winning should just enhance your fun so to speak. It should not make it.

3 RepliesAll they need to do is Completely REMOVE the k/d from stats and from in game scoreboards. having k/d visible is why people dont play objective or anything, FPS games have become more about how high your k/d is rather than fun and PTFO. People would rather say "Look at my 4.2 k/d", when they are playing a objective based game mode where it doesnt technically pay a massive part compared to say captures/defends.

I remember once when my friend started getting really into Halo 3 matchmaking and would start to not play with people who were worse than him because he was worried about dropping down in rank. One day I said to him that he needs to calm down and just play for fun with his friends. He snapped back in a serious tone "It's not meant to be fun!" I think that's when he realised that he had a problem, we pissed ourselves laughing at that. :P

I use to play PvE for fun, but after this recent update it's not fun getting 1-2 shot on the weekly... PvP is 40/60, fun/rage.

As a young person, I played all games and sports with neighborhood friends. We actually went outside then. It was all for fun but of course nobody wants to loose. Back then I played video games a lot too, more than my friends. I remember fierce competition with Street Fighter 2 on SNES. Again, nobody wanted to loose. Now, when I plug into a video game it's because I want to pwn. Totally dominate the competition and the AI. Sometimes, games require balancing before the path to legendary status is accessible and pleasurable. Such is the way.

2 RepliesI'm from the old gen of thinking. Play at your own pace and have fun. Two truths. Never compare yourself with others and play at your own pace and don't worry what the other guy is doing. I play games to figure out rl problems. I do my best thinking while playing.

Thats why i probably wont be raiding. If i had enough friends we could do it together and if we lose or if someone messes up, we just laugh it off. I cant do that with random people on the forums.
