legendary engrams

Bungie. I don't mind legendary engrams being a very small percent of getting I've had 5 in 10 hours or so. But to get a legendary is one thing. Then go and unlock it just to find its a blue or green or a coin or item is a piss take. Imagine diablo 3 you farm for legendary. Then unlock it to be a grey or white item. It wouldn't happen how can you have a small percent of getting legendary drops and a smaller chance of getting a legendary item from it.

    • I agree 100% that legendary engrams shouldn't drop anything but motes, ascendant mats and legendary+ items if I get this nice shiny purple engram it should not turn into a piece of crap level 16 blue. It's one thing to not always drop purples, it's another to have such a high chance of being a worse item than blue engrams

    • It takes a while I've played for a day and a half and have gotten around 14 legendary engrams and only 4 have turned out to be legendary or exotic. It will take time but that makes it sweeter when you finally get one

Since they are so hard to get, I wouldn't mind seeing a vendor to trade in exotic armor for exotic armor of another class. I got an exotic Titan chest that I'd love to swap for something my class can use.

        • The arguments of, "You shouldn't expect to have things handed to you," are red herrings, completely missing the point. Yeah, no kidding. Legendaries should be rare. That's not the problem here, that's not the complaint. The PROBLEM is the annoyance and disappointment of the bait-and-switch. The excitement of thinking you got a legendary, then having the Cryptach sneer, "LOL j/k smd," while you stare at your shiny new green. It's fine to have a low drop rate to make legendaries rare, but don't give us something that you -blam!-ing CALL a legendary if it's not going to be a -blam!-ing legendary. Don't jerk around with peoples' expectations, that's just a dick move.

Welcome to the world run by the god Random Number Generator. As any seasoned MMORPG player would tell you, drops can be a bitch. People say they're like 0/20+ or whatever, but all it comes down to is chance. I'm personally 3/8. I'm not really surprised that they are rare as they are technically the best pieces of gear since you can only have one exotic armor piece and weapon on at a time. You should be thankful this isn't like Guild Wars 2 or Final Fantasy XI where it can take 6 months to get one piece of the best gear.

            • I'm currently level 22. I have 22hrs played on my Warlock. I've been flat out in Strikes, and farming. I haven't got a single piece of Legendary yet. WTF Bungie. If I don't get any Legendaries by 24hrs. I'll be doing the 7 day guarantee at EB Games and I'll trade it for Halo MC Collection.

I think legendary engrams should either give legendary/exotic items, ascendant materials, or motes of light/strange coins and nothing less then that

                • Level 26 played at least 30 plus hours I'm maxed crucible mark limit this week I complete every bounty every day do every daily missions possible and Weekly strikes and always play on high level difficulties. Not one exotic bounty yet and I'm 1 for 10 on legendary engrams staying legendary the one being a different class than my own. The only legendary items I do have were purchased. I understand legendary items and above should be hard to obtain hence the name. But this current system is kinda ridiculous. I agree with others I'm not even excited to get a legendary engrams cause I know it's going to be green or blue. This 3 time roulette wheel to get the drop, have it stay or go higher, and then actually be usable for your class is insane.

I'd feel better if they simply added a roulette wheel when they were decoded. At least make my perpetual hell a whimsical one.

                  • Ive gotten 15 legendary engrams TODAY. All of them gave me blue or green gear. Im not really complaining, I did BWL 40 man over 100 times and never got a weapon from it. Thats a raid in WOW that used to take 10hours or so for full clear. This game is easy mode for gear. If you want good gear just grind rep. Ive gotten 4 legendary items and two exotics grinding crucible.

                  • To those who say "Quit whining, just save up and buy legendaries from the merchants." You don't buy someone a broken Christmas gift and then, to make up for it, offer them a full time job so they can save up and buy one that works. But that's essentially what Bungie is doing by giving us these bait-and-switch engrams. I don't mind having to work hard to buy from merchants. I don't even mind Legendary gear bring extremely rare. I just don't want to be majorly disappointed by Legendary loot imposter engrams all the time.

                  • The main problem with this is that the extremely high likelihood of legendary engrams being blue has sucked almost all of the excitement out of finding a legendary engram. In just a matter of days the mood of finding a legendary has gone from sheer excitement where I'm on a high the rest of the strike and I can't wait to get back to tower to see what I got...to blah whatever its most likely just gonna be a blue again, .I mean people shouldn't get depressed finding purples, as they know their just going to be disappointed when they decrypt it. If they intent is for them to be that rare then just make the Purple Engram drop that more rare to find but make it almost a guaranteed Legendary when decrypted. That way people are excited again about finding them. The fact that the only legendary item I've got so far came from a blue when i've decrypted about 8 purples so far is just stupid.

                    • Also, I'd like to point out that legendary engrams can roll exotics... and that crying over rolling strange coins from legendary engrams is extremely stupid. Strange coins buy exotics. They are the most valuable currency currently in the game, and exotics are better than legendaries, soooooo.....hush now. Farm, play, play SMART, do whatever you do, and eventually you'll have some good gear. We don't all need to be end game gear wearing max level characters a week into the game. What would be the point then?

                    • Wow, much cry. The system works. The ONLY thing I would suggest is that legendary and exotic engrams shouldn't even have the option of rolling a green item. That's far too troll. Hitting blues from them is fine though, I think. Just gotta keep playing guys, the game is a week old...seriously.

                      • The only balance to this system seems to be crypatch after level 6 which gives you purple engrams but at the same time they never guarantee legendary. But it does increase the chance of getting the engram, but you need to farm blues to level you're crypatch, everything about this sucks ballsack

                      • I have found around 5 or 6 legendary engrams on my level 26 warlock so far and all I have to show for it are a couple of coins and blues, which is extremely disappointing.

                      • It is ridiculous that this is even a problem. Did they completely miss the point that this game is supposed to be fun? Finding my first legendary only to have it turn to a blue was the biggest letdown I have had in this game aside from that drivel that they dared called a story. I'm not buying into the second installment.

                      • I am not particularly upset about this but it does seem like an odd mechanic. Instead of just dropping loot they have added an extra step to seeing what it is with a bonus of big disappointment. Why not just do what diablo 3 did and have loot drop in the field fully ready and have the engram guy be like the gambling merchant where you spend money for the chance to get anything from a common to an exotic. It just seems kind of unnecessary to add the extra step and up the chance of getting screwed unless there is some endgame plan for this system I can't see yet.

I agree. I think a chance to get a Legendary in a Rare engram is a good idea. But not the other way round. If they want to make Legendary engrams drop often, without dishing out too many Legendaries, I would rather the Legendary Engrams instead had a chance to contain Strange Coins, Motes of Light or a random amount of new currency that is used to buy Coins or Motes from a vendor in the tower. Then you at least feel like you're making progress, and you don't have to return to the tower only to be disappointed, you can be disappointed there and then.
