Some Serious Questions We Would Like Answered | How Much Game Have We Bought?

Hello Bungie and anyone else reading this, My friends and I (about ten of us) have all been playing the game since launch and have a bunch of questions we would like to see answered. We're wondering how much game have we actually bought? For months (at least) we had been researching the game, watching the teasers and everything else, but it seems to feel that we've been a little deceived. When we watched all of the stuff prior to the release of the game, we weren't under the impression that we would have seen literally every planet and enemy we would encounter when we got the full game. We were also under the impression that there would be some real scope to the game, which is something we're not quite finding at the moment. Can you read my questions and issues below and try and address them please? It would mean a great deal, as Destiny is something which my friends and I have all wanted to love so much, yet feel so confused and let down by the experience so far. We were expecting strike playlists to be more than rehashed story strikes, and we were expecting much more from the story. As a base game we understood that it would be the beginning of something, but the story was very short, and didn't really seem to go anywhere - even for an entry into a new IP that was expected to be the introduction game. This story really felt like an opening chapter in a game, rather than an opening chapter in a series of games. We can't even get out of our solar system, which is extremely disappointing, are we actually going to get some more planets for free before shelling out for expansions? When playing the beta my friends and I were a little put off by a single area to explore in the first world, after which, we brushed it off and agreed that surely that must be because we were in beta and we're not playing the full game. You really cannot seriously be putting in one area into each planet, especially when there are only a few planets within our solar system... Are we going to be getting more areas before having to buy more content? We cannot speak to anyone in the tower or anywhere else, giving the game the feeling that it's not really interactive or interesting. Every mission on patrol modes are identical: I thought after the campaign had abruptly ended, that I would have some things to do on the planets, so it wouldn't be all bad - only to find out the missions are just the same everywhere, over and over again. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but no one I know has encountered any missions that feel tailored as actual quests or anything, they're always generic 'collect this' or 'put your ghost in here and fight some enemies' or 'take out this guy. he's got extra health'. People may have some issues with what I'm saying, but the reviews are all the same, and everyone I play with says the same. I don't want to hear that now I've done the story that I have to do the same missions in the form of strikes over and over, or that I should try and do the game on a harder difficulty (which I will anyway), because that's not addressing the problems. So our question is - how much game have we bought? We know this is the beginning, but can you confirm that there are going to be new story missions, areas, strikes and patrol quests added to the game for free prior to any expansion content needing to be purchased? Or have we literally bought the extreme base version of the game, in which we'll have to pay for every single thing from here onwards in terms of the aforementioned aspects of the game? Currently it really feels like we've bought the key to the IP so we can purchase more content, rather than feeling like we've bought an actual full game. We just want a concrete answer as to whether this is the case, or if we should be expecting more story and playable places and missions etc. The whole game was clouded in curiosity before launch, then while we were playing and then we finished it and now we're still curious, curious as to whether that was it, or that was literally the start of the adventure (without buying more stuff). Are we just being optimistically naive that there's more to come for us? And yes, we know about the upcoming raid and the rest of the announced stuff from Sept - Dec or whatever.

  • You bought nothing. You rented it. And Bunglevision will demand more rental payments whenever they like and price those rental payments as high as they like. And if you're not happy about that, they can't hear you over the sound of fanboys throwing money at screens.

    • Thanks for your comments guys, it's really nice to know my friends and I are part of the majority. To be honest, the arguments against this post seem very flimsy, I can sit back and speculate about how great of a base this game is in terms of future potential, but then again, I could also do that about an imaginary game I think up, it still doesn't mean I have a great product now! I still have not received any word from Bungie on this post regarding any of the issues I have brought up on behalf of myself and numerous friends of mine, so I'm starting to feel left out and abandoned. I posted this thread in the help section so I would receive some answers from the team themselves, yet it seems my thread and many others have since gone on without any acknowledgement, a very disappointing fact given our combined support of the company over the years. Destiny is a game that I keep playing. I get excited about playing, boot up the game and then five minutes into playing I'm completely uninterested and unsatisfied and remember how I feel about it. I think (and I'd like to think I speak for a large number of guardians here) I'm in love with the concept of Destiny. I'm in love with the idea of what it could be, what the lore could be, the story could be, the gameplay could be, I guess I've bought into the 'promised land' of curiosity and possibility that Bungie depicted and keep booting the game up in a futile attempt to be satisfied and discover something along those lines - without any success obviously. Bungie spoke out about how much the team has grown and how they've learned so many lessons about gaming etc over the years, but I feel like that was yet another marketing ploy. Whilst the multiplayer of a game like Halo feels energetic, exciting and involved (to a degree), this game's multiplayer feels very flat and spacious, as if there's no one really around and it feels like a really bad counterstrike or something. The game types can't even support the same number of players that Halo does, despite apparently being way more interactive/advanced and whatever else. Take this new playlist 'Combined Arms' - it says it's all out vehicle warfare etc and that sounds great. In fact, it sounds a little like heavies in Halo, something which is a lot of fun. Play this game type and you'll soon be greeted by a single pike and a single interceptor on each team of six, playing 'Control' or 'Clash' as you would usually. I'm sorry, but where is this all-out vehicle warefare? Have Bungie literally just made a playlist that selects a random standard playlist and named it 'Combined Arms'? Where's the explosions, the vehicles clashing together, racing around and heavy weapons being used all of the time? I only mention Halo as a fitting reference for my point, but in no means do I want Bungie to just replicate that with a new skin. I would however like to see where the years of experience crafting one of the most memorable and still exciting multiplayer arenas has disappeared to. Less players, less game types, less variety, less sounds, less energy, what's the deal here Bungie? Are any of the original team with you still? It's just like the rest of the game - dry, soulless and repetitive. There's no fluidity here, it's a complete shambles. If people could perhaps keep commenting on this thread to keep it alive with any complaints they have about the game's content, perhaps we can get Bungie to at least dignify their fanbase with a constructive and non-evasive set of answers. All that the company are doing by ignoring us is making people think that they don't have any plan and are silently and quickly scurrying around behind the scenes trying to come up with a quick and cheap way they can plug the numerous holes that is sinking their precious Destiny. I'd love it if you could continue to show your support and discuss your ideas with me here, I'm really enjoying reading your answers! All the best, IS2

      • totally agree, to say nothing about the mission variety, which is this, sword of crota, and every mission that is not sword of crota.

      • The game has no content. We are all stuck with a Diablo type repetitive experience until something better comes along (something more in line with the Destiny that was advertised). I am hoping the The Division will no disappoint. Let's just say I won't be pre ordering it ;)

      • Lemme get this straight. You played the beta, was disappointed, got your hopes up, and was disappointed again. That's your fault. The game does feel like an under-achiever. I agree on that. But you and I played the beta. You should've known what to expect. My only qualms is with RNG. Gameplay and challenge is there. I do feel let down by the story since it was advertised as epic, but I knew not to expect much story after playing the beta. Only those that did not have the opportunity to play the beta should feel deceived.

        • I couldn't agree more. As an alpha and beta player I can't even express my dissatisfaction at finding no new content on earth and finding that every other planets is as empty. I love playing the game but it rings hollow at the end of the day.

          • I entirely agree with you, the game feels so incomplete, I feel as though we've been lied to and I'm just playing another game beta all over again. If there aren't any free expansions to the story after buying this full priced game, I'll probably return it. There are so many flaws and incomplete factors about the gameit feels like it isn't done yet, and no, I don't want to have to pay even MORE money to continue a game that already feels short. I see now why bungie kept dodging questions about game content and how long the story would take. Don't get me wrong, I love this game, I just REALLY hate the fact that it's missing so many essential pieces

          • If this is all the game for the money, then it will be the last dime they ever get from me. What a Rip Off
