Halo 2 LASO strategies for the average player

Fellow Halo 2 forum members, Since I've been detracting topics in this forum with my SLASO strategy obsessions which I haven't been able to put to rest, I'll post all my observations here and hopefully rid myself of this terrible burden that plagues me every night. First of all, if you would like to use this as a guide, please get acquainted with these terms: Single segment - means all in one try, no saves or deaths Segmented - means continuation from where I last saved and quit but it's absolute, from one game save Not segmented - means just strategies. Not really a run as it is a demonstration/test I have identified each level I have tested with one of these terms. LEVELS: CAIRO STATION - Not segmented Playlist To do this level single segment SLASO would be greater than or the equivalent of completing the entire Halo 2 campaign on Legendary without dying. _______ ORACLE - Segmented Playlist My most hated Halo 2 level... reduced to pebbles. _______ GREAT JOURNEY - ? [Data coming soon] _______ Halo 2 SLASO is the stuff of legend and I'm posting this here so I can revive the Halo 2 SLASO movement, which has strategic potential, and relieve myself of all this bloody temptation that has been torturing me since the early days... Happy Holidays! :D _______ OLD POSTS (this was originally a dedicated Cairo Station LASO strategy thread):
I'm now going to take a vacation from Halo games and the Halo forums this week. That much time away from Halo should restore my sanity and help me feel rejuvenated. Am I feeling it now? No. But someday, someone will ask me, "are you feeling it now SG?" and I'll be able to answer Yes. So... bye everyone!
Regarding hangar 1:

After 7 hours of non-stop cursing today (12 AM to 4 AM, 2 PM to 5 PM), I have developed a fine strategy. It used to take me 3-5 minutes (i.e. my first successful attempt) to clear the 1st hangar, but that was with Assassins turned off (Johnson was much more useful in distracting Covies and the other marines lived longer so they were helpful in distracting the Elites). With Assassins turned on, it became like Reach Legendary: Hell. H2 friendly AI > Reach friendly AI Only pros like MisterMonopoli can properly execute a cqc battle with those Covies (and get hit by a flying vehicle or scenery item and live). And since I'm not pro, I wanted to find an alternate way that was within our area of capability. And I did. The easiest way is to get Elites to take out swords and assassinate them 1 at a time as seen in the featured video. Also, near the end, something unexpected happened. The damn door blows up... while I still have 1 Elite remaining! If this was single segment, I would have had a heart attack right there.
Out of 47+ attempts, only about 15 were nearly or completely successful. Johnson must be pushed into the room or he'll disappear if you go too far from him (this applies anywhere actually). Grunts can send Johnson flying all over the place which is why they must be headshotted asap. So it is best to push him down after killing all the Grunts (untested but may turn out better as noted). Sword Elites can push Johnson through the walls and he'll be gone forever. That dual wielding Elite is extremely dangerous and smart + unusually responsive. Difficulty: 10/10, 8.5/10 with Assassins off
Regarding hangar 2:
I once thought this was impossible to do unless you jumped in there and had a brawl with the Covies. But now I think I've got a solution. My current strategy:
-headshot all Grunts (and forget about Johnson, only using him for infinite ammo through ally swap glitch) -Stick as many Elites as possible to get them to take out swords (or at least make them go into melee only mode where they don't shoot their rifles). First rearrange these 2 crates. Knock the small one off the ledge and move the big one next to the other one). Then get behind it, cloak, move a bit forward so you can see an Elite, and throw a plasma at him, repeat -when you return to 1st hangar for plasmas, if they aren't on the ground level but on the ledge, you don't have to go up there. You can just go under the plasma grenades and jump to pick them up -lure sword Elites 1 at a time to the room (the one with the human turret) for an assassination opportunity (tested and it seems plausible)
If all sword Elites here can be lured one at a time and assassinated, then this isn't so bad. Difficulty: 8/10 (inconclusive) Update: Yep, getting them to pull out swords seems to be the answer. I got the Goldie and his buddies to spawn. :D
[Edited on 12.26.2011 4:39 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: womyfts AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! This Cairo no deaths attempt (without Johnson) with Black Eye, Sputnik, Catch, Envy, Assassins and Thunderstorm is driving me nuts! I finally developed enough patience and refined the strategies to get through both hangers on the last attempt. The damn jet pack elites scattered into abnormal spots and I bought the farm. Damnit! I thought I had it good all the way to the bomb room once I got passed the second hanger. No such luck! New strategies for first hanger: Using the initial doorway and stair area until all of the grunts are dead is definately the way to go. Once they cannot kill your shields with nade tosses the elites are a matter of waiting for them to settle down, and choose one that isnt facing you. You can noob combo that guy, as an elite not facing you will not dodge an overcharge heading his way in that hanger. Once they are thinned out to a scant three or four left you can safely go pick up some grenades to get the less cooperative ones to die. Typically the last two you have to melee to get some shield back, as there is nothing else to melee for health like turrets and such. The second hanger is actually easy. I found out that you can noob combo pretty much any elite standing around down by the spot that they land in when exiting the boarding craft. They tend not to move around much. The last attempt I didnt even have to leave from the entrance to the hanger at all until I had thinned everything out to the last 2 elites. Those I went for assassinations on. Darn near bought it on the armory part, one of the two elites that is in the actual armory part FOLLOWED me down the stairs! I damn near had a heart attack, I have never seen one come down, EVER. That damn Thunderstorm skull really makes them act in much more aggressive ways at times, very unpredictable. He nearly wasted me but I was able to barely get back around a corner before I met my maker. Got through the rest fairly easily, being patient, then off the jet pack guys and that was it. VERY BUMMED! Guess I will just have to start over, AGAIN. This makes it about eighty attempts now, beginning to hope that we will lose power! Just kidding, someone has to give sliding ghost a run for his money!
Wow, nice read. Agreed, second hanger is not a problem. You mean the Elite followed you back down to the missile room? Damn!
