How about no swords because they're ridiculous in a Sci Fi game?

 • I'm totally cool with it for one tiny part of a mission

 • This is science fantasy. See the big guy by the door in plate mail. Yeah, he might be carrying a fully automatic chain gun but that doesn't change the fact that he's a knight. That gal over in corner with her knee high leather boots on the table and the hood of her cloak hiding her face? Don't let the snipper rifle leaning against her chair fool you. She's a rogue. She'll stab you in the back and take your loot before your body hits the floor. And I'm sure you recognize the guy sitting by the fire, his hands glowing with an ominous, dark purple light. He's a warlock. I think swords would fit fine in Destiny as a universe. I don't think I'll miss them though. I would be fine with it being a Titan only option, as it suits their role best. Maybe replace the knife with the sword. Leave the other classes with the smaller, more finesse weapon.

 • Not that I'm for swords but the hunter has throwing knifes and a knife for melee. Should those be taken out? I was keen on the idea of a customized look for each classes CQC. Nothing but a cosmetic thing.

 • Does the hunter try and kill enemies with just his knife? Or does he shoot them?

 • He does both. His right trigger is a close stab with a knife. Later(after unlocking) when you're not close its a knife throw( that has a cool down. But as I've tried to state the other peeps point is swords don't belong.....well knives are tiny swords. Like I've said before swords as a primary, special, heavy weapon slot is a pointless endeavor. A cosmetic change to melee attack without stat change is OK by me.

 • Agreed, swords have no place in Destiny. IMO

 • It is sci-fi, but also fantasy.

 • Mythic Sci Fi as bungie likes to call it. From what I've seen so far it's mostly Sci Fi with the exception of supers and what not. The lore and all seems to be more Sci Fi in the sense that it's science that we just don't understand yet. Just my two cents. Either way I still don't feel like swords fit guardians very well

 • Really
there's one, and those guys also basically magic users. I also think star wars is almost as much fantasy as Sci Fi
•
basically magic users
And throwing a giant ball of void energy and clashing your fists into the ground with a giant electric explosion isn't magic?

 • Not saying it isn't. The only place that really has the fantasy aspects in destiny (that we know of for now) is in the combat abilities. Everything else is Sci Fi or just science that we don't yet understand. Star wars had a whole lot more of the force magic stuff going on in the lore of the series than destiny does in its lore (again only from what we know now). This kind of makes sense to me because Halo's feel was more of a gritty Sci Fi than fantasy. While destiny is a totally different series it does have a dark post apocalyptic feel to it. As of now it doesn't really feel like swords fit

 • The whole faction of The Hive is based off of magic. But I see where youre getting at. I still would like a broad sword type blade for my Titan.

 • The hive is based off of the darkness, which isn't necessarily just magic. It very well could be just how the 'light' of the traveler could be magic. It could also just be science we don't understand yet. It's one of those things we've got to wait and see about. Regardless of all that, swords not fitting the feel of the game was more my point. I don't mind swords being used in a game like dragon age where they definitely fit, I just don't feel they fit here. It's the same reason I was totally against pets being in destiny. They fit fine in FF 14 but not so well in destiny.

 • I agree with the pets thing. But I feel like swords would fit especially if they looked like the space swords in Warframe. On the magic thing the Wizards use the magic of the Darkness to summon their infaltry.

 • The magic you're referring to may or may not be magic. We don't know anything about the light/darkness

 • True. While anyone in the star wars universe can wield a lightsaber only force wielders can use them effectively ( which unfortunately the new clone wars cartoon shows a non force wielder using a black saber. Which sucks that they did that.)

 • Its called a dark saber and the even in the comic books some non force users use light sabers, especially bounty hunters. Plus he was Mandalorian so he was highly trained in all fighting styles and it was kind of a trophy thing. General Grievous doesn't know the force and he uses light sabers.

 • See this is where the continuity of sw falls in on itself. Lightsabers are hard weapons to master. Their weight distribution is uneven. When the saber is swung it wants to cut right or left so getting a precise cut is near impossible. Jedi being highly sensitive to damn near every sense are the perfect beings to wield them. Its a shame they've been cheapened through the years.

 • Dark sabers are different, and like I said have been in the star wars universe for longer than the clone wars, and many other people have used light sabers other than jedi, mostly bounty hunters.
