Prox chat griefing, WTF bungie.

The only thing I can find as to why prox chat/in-game voice is not in destiny is because of little kids and trolls griefing other players. Now I don't know about you but almost all of my online friends I met through random encouters, be it Xbox live or PSN or B.net. If every game had bungie's attitude toward socializing with people you DON'T know the online gaming community would be dead. If you don't like meeting new people and only want to play with those you do know maybe it's time you jump in your delorian, hit 88mph and have a lan party back in 90's EDIT: I think most of the nay sayers are missing my point. We all play online games Ps3, ps4, xbox 360, xbone, doesn't matter we all have a friends list, full of friends, made up of mostly people we met online in whatever game it is you play. If the various different games youve played over the years did what bungie is doing just how many people on your list would be gone? Never met because why? Well it's because all people who talk are annoying so voice chat should be removed. REALLY? ARE YOU PEOPLE KIDDING? I just don't buy it, I don't believe that none of you understand this. EDIT 2: /Game chat, if as one guy said they are bubbles, then turn the tower into a game chat bubble, only 16 players on your screen at any given time with an off option so its manageable, too many jackasses, orbit, back, new 16. Don't get me wrong im not just arguing prox chat, a open text based system in the tower would suffice, so long as there is some form of communication outside your fire team. As it stands without the ability to speak to "that cool lookin titan over there" this game is no more social then CoD or halo, infact it is less so since you can only communicate in game with those in your fireteam. EDIT 2.5: IMO Most griefers are CoD players, thats why I don't play CoD anymore (that and the game play went down hill really fast after CoD 4) I now seldom hear idiots screaming at other idiots, without the ability to 360 no scope in an mlg pro 1v1 lobby, those players will be gone soon enough.

  • Look, how can you be so blind? I'm getting so tired of people wanting proximity chat. Think about this for a second. Bungie is building not just a game, but an experience. I played the alpha and beta. This game has so much atmosphere, its amazing. I don't think any of us want to be out exploring some dark ruins or something like hellmouth for instance, and have someone come along playing their music into their mic or in the background. Completely ruins your experience doing that. Seriously, they put a dance button in for a reason. I made over 15 friends just dancing in the tower in the beta. If you wanna talk, get some friends and play the content with them. If you have enough time to complain on a forum, you obviously could be making some friends on here instead of complaining.

    • I still think it might be in. After Beta one of the IGN interviews had... I think Urk, talking about how they were listening on the topic and it wasn't decided if it was in the final release.

    • I think proxy chat would be nice but with a mute option. You can always delete friends on the list if they turn out to be a douche though

    • I have played an MMOFPS with prox chat I can tell you that prox chat spam is not a huge issue. I would say for every 20 hours played I would spend 1 minute dealing with a griefer.

    • I agree I'm pretty sure this game attracts some more mature players and while I like the silent communication through emotes being able to talk and know a person is how you do nd out more about them and their guardian. you can always have some sort of mute option for individual players in your space and of course reporting

    • For me it's not just griefers, but also mouth breathers, barking dogs, crying babies, and other background noise. I don't need or want the sound of you munching on chips to ruin my immersion. I do not want proximity chat. I don't need to talk to you unless we're in a fire team together. If they included proximity chat, the first thing I'd do when I started playing would be to turn it off.

        • It's amazing to me that almost everyone here are bragging about voice chat and prox chat, etc. When that same amount of players in most games I've played since online gaming was created, stay silent or stay on party chats. Which brings me that my next point in Alpha and Beta I met some new friends without trouble. I was exploring and met an equal lvl 5 Guardian and after a while I realized he was still with me as were another one who just joined the fight. I got their attention after the slaughter with some waving and dancing and then I examinated both characters and then invited them into a party chat. They accepted and done, we became a fireteam. No nuisance, no grievances and no trolling. Conclusion: invite your friends over to a party chat and there.

        • Meh, if there was prox chat I'd probably have it off all the time. I prefer to do my own thing, and ignore others in free roam.
I fit the hunter's lore
• At PAX they mentioned prox chat, and seemed positive about adding into the game. I think it's more a feature that wasn't able to be finished within the given time frame. I believe we will see it as a free update for Destiny soon.

          • Are you serious? Can you imagine flying into the tower only to have your ears assaulted by 16 Kinect mics at once?

            • I don't have a problem with a lack of proximity chat. Yes most of my friends are people I met online, and have never met in person. But I didn't need proximity chat to become friends with them in those games either. Fire teams aren't limited to those already on your friends list. You can matchmake strikes to find random new people. As well as form fireteams on the fly to tackle world events and world bosses with nearby players.

              • It's not just cod man. Shit talking tots on FIFA. Halo. Etc I'm not playing to have to hear the high pitched prepubescent voices of preteens and elementary school kids who think they're way cooler than they really are cause they can scream about how they -blam!-ed my mother into an xbox or ps mic. I almost always mute them. Introduce public chat and that won't be possible, or it will be an unnecessary hassle.

              • It would be nice if they made an easily-modifiable chat system. For instance, easy muting, quick opt out when you don't want to hear other people at all, variable max distance. That way, you'd only hear what you wanted to hear.

              • Dude, I do not want to be playing in Old Russia with some fireteam of untermenschen running after me trying to grief me. Screw that, proxy chat should only be available in Strikes...wait, but no one uses microphones there anyway.

                • Also, the lack of proxy chat left me getting overloaded with chat invites from people who wanted to talk. Much more intrusive and arduous a task than having proxy chat and the ability to mute the children.

Yes its true most of the immature people are kids, who are being ignored by their parents, are going to migrate from CoD. But luckly we can identify these immature morons by the color shader they got from Activision. And when you see someone with this shader you get advanced warning to stay away from and not group or help them in any way.
