I did some digging into rebuilding the database since that is the closest thing to a defraG in the Safe mode menu and I can't find any articles out there suggesting this. I am not suggesting the original poster is making things up but I would be cautious before moving forward with the defrag suggestion.

  • Yep I did I read the suggestions, fully watched the video and read the guide by Sony, that still doesn't satisfy my concerns though. Defragmentation consolidates fragmented data on a hard drive so it can be found more easily, which of course helps the computer find the data more quickly. That is not what you are suggesting to people though, what you are suggesting is rebuilding a database which is a different thing from defragmentation. According to the Sony forums rebuilding the database will do the following according to their Playstation.. Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on screens, trimming information for pictures in , video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. There are also reports of people rebuilding the database and losing all the data on their hard drive as a result of the rebuilding going wrong. http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3/Rebuilding-Database/td-p/15406426/page/2 I suggestion caution in following this suggestion, I apologize if you dislike it but I think people have a right to consider the consequences of what you are suggesting.

  • You are right it is not defragging, defragging is harmless, but you are telling people to rebuild their database which isn't harmless. You may think you are being helpful but you are being irresponsible and this could cause purple to lose data. Rebuilding a database should be used only when the database is corrupt. It can result in a loss of data. I am sorry, I see you put alot of effort into this post but that doesn't change the fact that you could be steering people into disaster. Call me a troll ask you want, at least warn people of the dangers in following your instructions.
