I think it would be great if your ship made a difference, other than looking different maybe have each ship model give a special ability, while ship to ship combat would be epic, especially in PvP, I don't see it happening, you'd have to add an extra engine into a game that's already running a bunch of different engines that have to interact with each other. A bonus from the ship, or a special ability would still be epic though. Treat the ship like a piece of armor and I'd be happy.

 • This would be excellent. It would give us a reason to get a sweet ship besides vanity. I plan on upgrading my ship anyway, but there will be a lot of lv 20 min-maxers out there with the starter ship because the other ships add no functional value.

Wouldn't have taken much to re use those mechanics into some Co-Op missions I feel..

 • Keep in mind those systems are several years old and designed for xbox 360. There might be a lot of incompatible code. Backwards compatibility can be a very difficult thing.

 • They're making entire last gen games re mastered, including Halo 1,2, 3 and 4, so I don't think taking one small section from Reach would really be a problem.
Bungie isn't remastering those games, 343 is
It's irrelevant who's doing it and what games they are, the point I was making was, is that entire games(in general) are being remastered by various company's, and that it is not just entirely possible, but remastering is being done as we speak for various games by various companies. I was just using the Master Chief collection as an example.

 • You don't know anything about programming do you? You're just one of those idiot game design students who think up stuff and expect a programmer to do it for you.

If they couldn't do it, then they shouldn't have implied and put the emphasis on ships in the game that they did, and that's the crux of it.

 • Okay say they do as you suggest, it would never work for PS4 because the xbox and PlayStation's system base code is too different. Not to mention bungie is no longer the legal owner of that code, 343 owns the rights to all engine code. Remember it was one of the major terms when Bungie and Microsoft seperated. Bungie gave up all rights to the Halo and any code or 3d models that went into its creation.

As for the mechanics, I'm sure it would be a propiatry software mechanic that belongs to the developer, as long as they don't use it to create anything from the Halo universe.

 • In order to have mechanics, you have to have an engine. I'm not saying its impossible to create, Im saying that it looks like they may have already tried. Just look at all the ship models, from the beta, they looked like there were guns and missile launchers on them. That seems like a lot of work simply for aesthetics, (not saying it may very well just be just for aesthetics, makes the ship look way more awesome.) It may well be something they're holding close to their chest, maybe there will be a raid with that mechanic in it, or they tried and it was just too hard right now and they decided to focus on the rest of the game. Time will tell, but I would still like to see the ship matter, even if its just a small bonus to ammo reload speed. Every little bit helps

 • The trouble is, it's a lot less than was perhaps implied. If they attempted it and gave up, then that's not good either, I would have liked a bit more commitment and dedication to make something as good as it can be, and I feel optional space missions, which were implied through what they said and showed combined whether it was intentional or not, would have added a lot to the game. If they're going to make and claim something is ambitious and expansive, then they should make it ambitious and expansive, but the more I hear, the more It looks like it's neither. I'm not saying people should boycott the game because of this, but people should at least be discussing their disappointments and where it could and should have been better :-)
