It's a balance issue. Would you rather exotics were just slightly better than legendaries and then wear a full set? Or choose one exotic and have it head and shoulders crazy better than the legendaries? I, for one, like the 2nd option and the fact they are differentiating themselves, albeit in a small way, from other games where you equip items. Also, if you had a helmet that gave you one Super buff, and a set of gloves that gave you a different Super buff, you could have all 3 Super buffs without having to pick one. Bungie wants your decisions to matter. To make your guardian unique. If you have all the abilities at your disposal, you aren't different. Everyone will go for that one set up and the variety between guardians will be less. This one exotic rule will lead to more unique setups and guardian equipment choices. It's easy to call it an idiotic idea when you haven't put it to actual use, but maybe wait to see it in action before judging it so harshly? Maybe? You know they've been playing this game for years and we have barely touched it via the beta, right?

  • That's what is going to happen anyway. Its the same thing that happens in every game. People find out what thd most powerful gear is and then everyone uses that. What's the point of getting more than 2 exotics per character? You cant switch guns on thd fly without losing amo. You're going to have a bunch of generic gear and then one cool thing about your character. If they wanted to add a strategic sense to picking what gear they should have just made gear with different benefits that lent themselves to different play styles. Im just taking this guys word that you can only equip 2 exotics

  • Actually they've already said why you'd want to change up equipment and subclasses even. Some nightfall missions may have modifiers including everything is resistant to arc dmg by 75%. This, as a Titan, would ask you to change from Striker to Defender to have a better chance at beating it. Then you'd also want different gear. There's lots of situational events. To be best suited for them, you'll need a variation of gear options as well as weapons.

  • I thought they also were giving bonuses for locking in your subclass. I mean were all just speculating because we dont know how in game powerful exotics would be but its just kind of lazy to say "nope too powerful" instead of finding a way it could work. This game is full of those decisions.

  • Initially, you could lock a subclass so you couldn't change the skills in that one anymore, but giving that subclass a bonus. But locking in did not mean you couldn't swap between your different subclasses. Once you locked, you were going to be given a new subclass of the same one that levels faster that you can adjust and change, but keep the locked in one to switch to. Although, during the latest update to characters that showed some class changes, the lock was gone from the trees. No one knows if locking in was removed or what's going to happen now to that. And actually, it's not lazy. They could've done the easy thing and just let people wear what they wanted and not have to explain themselves. When they consciously made the decision to change how Exotics work when equipping differently than every other item in the game, that causes them more work. Not just in game, but also in PR to explain why they decided to make that change. So you can call it lazy if you want, but I think lazy is far from the truth. They could make it work. They can nerf the exotics so you aren't completely overpowered with a full set of them on and make them just marginally better than legendaries, like every other game does. Or they can make them each super powerful and only let you equip one armor, one weapon at a time. I like the sounds of it. Everyone complaining about it hasn't had a chance to use them in game. The main complaint here it sounds like is cosmetically related, not balance.

  • If everyone gets the best gear, then every one will be equal!! Now it just depends on your skill!!

  • Huh? If everyone is equal that would make the game depend on skill.

  • I was just joking, but that would be interesting if the game was like that.

  • Lol oh ok. I was confused. It might work the way they have it. Im willing to give it a shot but there were some cool exotic bonds that I hope dont count as my exotic armor piece.

  • One ability per set. Whole set required to make use of ability. Problem solved. Not even I want buffs on every individual piece.

  • So you're saying they should nerf the items as they currently are so that you can have all Exotic stuff. You're completely entitled to your opinion, that's fine. Bungie obviously felt differently. Every single RPG-like game lets you get full exotic gear and equip it all, but it's all just a little better than the previous rank of equipment. Bungie is going down a different path in Destiny, and choosing to have exotics be quite a bit better than the previous rank of equipment, so this is a balance issue. If you'd like your armor to match, you could just go all legendary equipment. If it's honestly that big of a deal to you. To me though, I like the choice Bungie made instead of carbon-copying what everyone else has. Yes, this game shares many traits from many games, but it doesn't mean they can't differentiate themselves some.
